If Only You Came Over
shuffled awake; he groggily opened his eyes and smiled at the sight next to him. It was , his girlfriend. He took in her beauty as she slept, breathing in her scent and playing with her silky hair. Softly he kissed her on the shoulder.
sat on the bar table in the kitchen, stirring his cereal in the bowl, taking no notice of the spills. He just stared out the window, watching as the rain hit the window panes, looking glumly ahead of him. It had been like this for a couple of weeks. The radio quietly played in the background but he wasn't listening to the music just the words as Jeff Buckley's - Lover You Should've Come Home Tonight played. Pushing the still full bowl of cereal away he stood up from the stool, headed into the lounge and grabbed his coat which lay on the sofa arm. Without a thought he headed outside despite the hard hitting rain, and walked towards anywhere where he hadn't looked.
", I can't hear you?" he exclaimed worriedly.
"I'm sorry ...I can't do this," she cried. The noise of the car engine could be heard.
", we can talk this through. Come back...and...and we'll sort this out," he insisted in vain.
"There's no use. He won't change."
"You don't have to go through with it. Come to mine and we'll talk about it," persisted but nothing seemed to make her think otherwise.
"It's too late..."
". I love you," he declared, all he wanted was for them to talk and for nothing hasty to happen.
"Oh . I l..." the connection cut.
"No," cursed.
"You Should've come over," whispered through his long coat collar. Many times had he tried to track down , however his attempts were futile. For every failed attempt he thought about giving up but something wouldn't let him. There always seemed a little bit of determination inside to find his love.
Too soon the sky became dark and the streets looked glum; with the diming street lights and wet footpaths. Once again he came no closer to finding . Despite his father's upbringings he couldn't help but shed a tear. It's been almost a month...maybe I should just give up.
", we need to talk," guided to the sofa.
"What is it?" asked with worry as he saw the sadness in 's eyes.
"My dad...my parents...they've found a guy, who they want me to marry," 's eyes welled up, the tears just barely staying in. "I tried...saying that I don't want him...I tried to tell them but they wouldn't listen."
"What does this mean?" couldn't believe what he had heard.
"I said I didn't want to marry just anyone...but they wouldn't listen. They wouldn't listen!" had fallen onto 's chest. "They said...said if I didn't then they'd have no daughter. I can't go through with it...I don't want to go through with it."
"Who is this guy?" continued to rub her back but he didn't feel as it he could stay strong that much longer.
"An old friend. I don't want to..." she whimpered.
"Shh...I know."
That was the time before the phone call. It was since then had lost contact with . She wouldn't answering his calls. He tried calling the house phone but no one answered. He would have tried the parents but they didn't know the truth. They had to keep their relationship secret due to her parents' strict beliefs.
toddled to the kitchen, and poured himself a glass of water. With his radio still on he listened to the raspy voice. Then, from the corner of his eye light had shone through into the lounge. He alertly jogged towards the window and looked outside. He couldn't believe his eyes, the car matched 's. However he couldn't make out the license plate due to the darkness and the heavy rain. Soon enough his porch light came on and showed someone getting out of the car. Sure enough, it was . Without a second glance jetted out side.
Before closed her car door a body strongly pressed against her. There were a couple of minutes of silence before sobbed, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."
"Where have you been? I've been looking for you."
"Thinking."
"I love you," hugged her tighter.
"I love you too," withdrew from hug and placed her hands on 's cheeks, "Just know that no guy will ever replace you...no one." She looked away for a moment, "I'm sorry. I better go."
The tears continued to stream down but before she could turn to her car pulled her towards him, "Not yet...I'm not ready to let you go."
