Silently Sequel
turned his attention to the entrance of his bedroom door. A smile crept along his face and grew. stood between the doorframe, wearing a white crotchet top and a simple yellow skirt, clutching onto a small handbag with both hands. smiled, rose from his bed and rubbed his eyes. Suddenly, disappeared. Once again sadness drew on his face; he had been hallucinating and hearing his name being called. "You're not here," whispered and quietly cursed himself for falling for his mind tricks.
The afternoon arrived, had debated whether or not he could bear seeing lie on the hospital bed once more. He had realised that he neglected to visit her more often. After all, she had been in hospital for a month or so and he did feel like a terrible boyfriend. After moments of more thinking he opted to make the visit. "Mum, Dad! I'm going to see ," she shouted from the stairs, struggling to put his jacket on.
"Okay. Ooo...you're mum wants you to put some fresh flowers in her vase. I don't think will appreciate seeing dead plants when she wakes up," 's father passed him a bouquet of flowers.
chuckled and took the flowers, "Thanks Dad. Anything else?" looked around the room.
"Me, me, me," screamed , as she ran towards . "Another drawing!"
"Wow , that's amazing," he ruffled her hair and smiled.
"Yep. It's you, and a little baby...when you two have a family," grinned.
choked and looked towards with shock. He couldn't believe what he had heard. To calm his heart beat - which pumped second to nothing - and patted his chest.
"C'mon , your brother's got kitten in his stomach," the father laughed loudly and patted on the shoulder as he shooed back into the lounge.
regained some composure and headed to the hospital.
Walking through the hospital corridors he starred at the picture had drawn. Like she said, the picture entailed a girl, a guy and a cradle. The picture contained intricate qualities, from the colours of the room to the clothing. He knew was artistic but it was as if she had drawn a picture of what could be 's and 's future. The thought of his little sister thinking about his future sort of scared him, he never thought about taking things further but he didn't think the time was right. He always held things back just in case things didn't go well with . Despite this feeling he still kept the engagement ring, his passed to him, in his pocket.
By now was sat on the arm chair next to 's bedside. He cupped her hand, "Happy anniversary. Five years now...and, hopefully, many more. God, I don't know what to say. It's been a while. I miss not being able to talk to you. I miss everything. I keep thinking - even though I really don't want to - that, maybe, you're never waking up. I should be wrong though, right? I usually am anyway," he let out a breath of laughter. "So, I haven't been up to much, maybe I should...starting to become a hermit." He continued to talk for another couple of hours, it was becoming like a normal conversation but one sided. His visiting permit had almost come to an end. He brought out a small gift from his coat pocket. "I forgot the card...typical, huh?" He placed the gift in front of the photo frame and leaned a quickly scribbled note before leaving.
Again he went straight up to his room. This time logging on to his laptop to surf the Internet, randomly. Not long after logging onto Facebook, there were messages and comments of sympathy. He knew they were all written with good intentions but it didn't really help him with the situation any better. A knock came from the other side of the door, " mate?"
swivelled around. The opened and walked in, instantly taking a seat on 's bed, "How are you hanging in there mate?"
"Alright," replied.
"Well, since you didn't answer your phone I thought I'd make a visit. That's the kind of friend I am," said with a bit of sarcasm, in hope that it would bring some sort of humour.
verged on a laugh but his expression stopped with a smile.
"I come bearing a six pack," he brought a pack of six beers from behind. He brought his keys out from his pocket and rattled with them until he found the beer bottle opener keyfob, "Just what I'm looking for." The metal lid popped opened. He passed that one to end and opened one for himself.
"Thanks ," said with a depleted tone.
"You know right? She's a fighter. I mean, she kept you wrapped around her finger and you're annoyingly stubborn."
"Jeez, thanks man," a grin appeared on 's face, he knew it was true - about the fact. Although he didn't think he was stubborn.
"All I'm saying is that, will wake up. I know you love her, just don't give up hope okay? Man, that was actually quit deep coming from me. Anyway, nine times out of ten people wake up from comas."
"Thanks. I guess I needed that."
"By the way, congratulations on five years. I'm sorry you're having to spend it with me - as handsome as I am - but I'm here for you. In a het..."
"I know what you mean ."
"So...to ?" rose his beer bottle.
clinked his bottle to 's, "To ."
"Mind if I come? The hospital wouldn't allow me because they didn't believe I was a friend. Do I look like a pervert or something? Don't answer that."
"Sure, I'll be leaving in the morning or afternoon sometime."
Early in the morning was in his room getting changed. His door was closed until someone stormed in, "Morning!" sang in an operatic voice.
grabbed a top and covered his body, for all he knew it could have been his mum. He rolled his eyes when he saw , "I'm getting changed!"
"Sorry, I though you were...well...y'know...surfing the 'net and...ahem...stuff," stated.
"Right, because that's the first thing on my mind when I'm going to the hospital," retorted.
"To some it helps calm their nerves," replied, he knew it didn't make sense but still he spoke his mind.
raised both eyebrows, "Yeah, that kind of thing just makes people feel serene."
"Ugh, it's the same woman at the desk..." starred at the receptionist giving her an evil glare.
"God it's not her fault. She can't just let anyone in. I went with 's parents..."
"Good point," replied.
"Ah Mr ...and you are?" the woman at the desk asked.
"This is , a friend," pointed to and smiled.
"Walk straight through," the woman said.
"Thanks."
They entered the room, the nurse who regularly checked on , held a clipboard. She looked away from the monitor and gave a smile. Silently excusing herself from the room. and stepped aside. raised an eyebrow towards , as the nurse shuffled past. "Nature's calling. Don't abuse the power of 's unconsciousness okay?"
looked astounded by the insinuations.
"I'm only joking mate. Be two secs," replied.
took a seat on the armchair. He carefully took hold of 's hand, she seemed so fragile. He looked around the room, he head stopping pinpoint at an object, which caught his attention. A small white box, the same which left on the bedside table. He couldn't help but have a curious look, placing 's hand back on the bed, he opened the box; pressing the tiny gold button the lid flicked up. His eyes widened as he saw a single white gold, solitaire ring, "Finally," he whispered quietly, putting the box back where it was. Again he took hold of 's hand and whispered congratulations. Things seemed a bit surreal as he though 's hand grip tightened. He starred at the hand but after seconds he dismissed his previous thought, "God places like this can make someone go loopy." His gaze still stayed on 's hand. It wasn't until he heard a faded voice that his head rose.
's eyes slowly blinked opened, she attempted to say 's name but she could barely open her mouth.
looked at in amazement, "? Hey, how are you?"
smiled, once again she tried to speak but the first letter seemed strained.
"Shh," said, "Take it easy okay? Typical, decides to pop to the ladies room and when you're awake."
's humour made laughed. She felt a small pain.
"Sorry. Bad time to make jokes. Okay, stay here...not that you're going anywhere...oops. Er...I'll go get a doctor and find , okay?" explained. The doctor and nurses were seeing to as went to find . As he turned the corner her saw walking down the corridor. "!" he shouted. looked up from the floor. When he saw pointing frantically towards 's room his quickened his walking speed and started to jog.
stopped right before the entrance of the room, eh wasn't sure whether to the staff were pulling the plug, he didn't quite know what was happening until he starred at .
"Go in there, she's awake," patted on the shoulder and pushed him forward.
"Ah Mr , seems fine so far. We'd like to keep her here for a couple more days just to monitor her. I'll leave you two...three...alone, whilst I update her parents," the doctor gleamed, excusing himself.
rushed over, and saw a trying smile on 's face. Tears watered 's eyes as he cupped 's face. "I've missed you."
Restricted to few actions, could only smile. She felt the warmth of 's hug and the sincere kiss on her neck.
