Where Were You?
I stood up from the piano, turned to face the audience, to be met with a standing ovation. I gave my final bow. Again he wasn't there. Playing a piece full of emotions wasn't so hard when you're feeling them at that moment. Every time I built my joy by picturing his face as he stood and clapped for me, but every single time I was left disappointed. If I can come see him and support him when his band needed it why couldn't he reciprocate? Is support so much to ask for? Whilst questioning her relationship she changed into her casual clothes. As she walked out of the building she smiled sincerely, hiding her sadness, as strangers came to compliment her on her performance. Although compliments were always taken kindly she couldn't help but feel betrayed by the one person who she wanted there most.
"! I got into the band," screamed with excitement, going over to embrace his girlfriend but no reply came, ", I got into the band."
She pushed away from his embrace, "Yeah, I heard," she looked at the carpet, not meeting his eyes.
"What's...oh god. I'm sorry. I was told..." hugged her apologetically.
"I don't want to hear it," pushed him away and started walking up the stairs.
"I'm sorry," looked up as she walked away.
turned around, tears running down her face. A combination of anger and sadness was obvious. Speaking uneasily she glared at , "Sorry? You're sorry? I've supported you and your stupid band..." She didn't think they were stupid, not one bit, but anger got the better of her, "...and you can't even be bothered to come see me, when you're the one I want most to be there. I'm over the moon for you and the other guys but I'm also feeling a little c**p. You understand that though, right? I mean, you must be the most considerate person!" She wiped her tears away but that didn't stop fresh ones from falling, "I don't want to talk about this now. I'm going to bed."
As she walked away from sight felt guilty. He was too busy trying to get a record deal that he forgot what mattered most.
Like any other time when felt down she turned to her baby grand. had brought it her for their two year anniversary. The first couple of times had missed her concerts she could forgive him then but this was one too many. To her it seemed as if he didn't care, as if she came second in life. She didn't mind him loving his music and trying to get somewhere - she'd support him no matter what - but to show no attempt at even trying to see her play really hurt.
It had been a couple of days, wasn't his usual self around practise. His chilled and outgoing personality seemed to fade. He lacked his usual enthusiasm and it was evident to everyone.
"What's up man?" asked taking the bean bag next to him.
"It's ," he mumbled, staring at his twiddling fingers, "I missed her concert again."
"Again?" knew that wasn't helping, he patted his friend on the back sympathetically, "You know you could always make it up to her? She might be upset now but she's forgiving."
"Yeah," half-smiled.
took a deep breath, preparing herself before she performed in front of the hundred thousand people. She took one last glance of the mirror, whilst straightening her dress up. In case she was left saddened at the end she pepped through the curtains, no sign of . She nodded her head.
After the last chord sat still and took a deep breath, she had just finished playing Moonlight Sonata. Now it was time to play her favourite song, Marriage D'Amour. Her fingers softly lent on the ivory keys. The passion and emotions were conveyed through her playing.
Half way through the piece where the start repeated another spot light shone. A disc shape stage came sliding out. looked up - still playing the piano - and saw another grand piano. A guy sat on the end of it, playing in time with . A confused look appeared on her face. This wasn't planned. When the rotation of the piano player came to light could be seen, in a suit, playing the same song. He looked up at and smiled. She smiled back but it took a while to sink in. was not only at the concert but he was actually playing along.
The last chords of the song echoed through the auditorium. stood up to take her bow but stayed sat at the piano. looked over. I hope she likes this panicked. He has worked hard on this piece. Playing the guitar was his strongest ability but he trying to compose a good piano song for .
