Chapter 1
On the day after the wedding, Kayleigh got out of bed and smiled, "Typical," she said watching John, who was still asleep. She went downstairs to make breakfast. "John! Breakfast is ready!" Kayleigh shouted. No answer. "
John soon ran out the room in his sleeping shorts and t-shirt, "Are you okay Kayleigh...shall I call the ambulance...do you...?"John said in a worried tone, getting his mobile.
Kayleigh lightly slapped him across the head laughing, "Put the phone down. My waters not breaking...I'm not even pregnant, fool," she said jokingly.
"Then why..." John started to ask.
"Because I called you down for breakfast and you didn't come," Kayleigh said.
"Oh...sorry," John rubbed the back of his neck and apologised.
"I've got practise now, do you want to come?" John asked looking at Kayleigh whilst packing his bag.
"I don't think I can, can I?" Kayleigh asked.
"Mathiew said it was okay," John replied.
"Okay...are you sure?" Kayleigh asked again.
"Yes, now please come?" John said.
"Okay...okay."
"Okay whilst you're getting ready I'll go and see the others," Kayleigh pointing to the other guys.
"Are you sure you don't want to come help me?" John winked.
"What and smell of men pheromones...no thanks," Kayleigh laughed, "And behave yourself...this isn't home."
"Hey guys," Kayleigh said walking towards them and waving. Kayleigh was greet by hi's and congratulations.
John walked to the guys who were crowding around Kayleigh, "I haven't even been married to you for a day and already you're looking at other guys," John joked.
Kayleigh was watching the guys practise, she was laughing the whole time because whilst they were playing Danny smacked the hard at John's backside, to the extent that John couldn't sit or for a while.
"Kayleigh? Can I talk to you for a bit?" Danny said.
Kayleigh withdrew from the conversation with John, Joey and Alan, "Sure...excuse me guys," Kayleigh excused herself, "So...what did you want to talk about?" Kayleigh asked.
"I just wanted to say thanks again for yesterday?" Danny said.
"Aw...Danny you don't have to keep thanking...It's okay," Kayleigh said, hugging him and smiled, "Now let's go back to the others."
Danny smiled back at her.
"What was that about?" John asked.
"Nothing...Danny just had something to tell me," Kayleigh said.
"Okay...is he alright?" John asked.
"Yeah...you know it's one of those things which only a girl can answer," Kayleigh smiled.
"Oh okay," John answered.
When Kayleigh and John got home their phone rang.
Kayleigh answered, "Hello?...hi Dad...John? Okay I'll get him." She called out loud, "John?"
John's head peeped out of the kitchen.
"Daddy dearest wants you," Kayleigh laughed.
John picked up the phone, "Hi Mr Kayleigh!...Sorry - Dad...Golf?...um...okay...so Sunday at 12...okay...okay...yeah I know where it is...yeah that's fine...bye," John said noting down the date, place and time.
"What did he want?" Kayleigh asked.
"He wants me to go golfing with him," John said.
"That's nice," Kayleigh replied.
"No...not nice...I can't play golf," John said.
"Then why did you agree to play?" Kayleigh asked.
"Well, we're just about getting on. If I said no things will be back to how they were," John stated.
"Good point....anyway I'm sure your not that bad," Kayleigh comforted,"how many times have you played?"
"Um... try... never," John answered.
"Oh...well...that might be a problem," Kayleigh said. "Okay...maybe you could ask someone to teach you."
"Good idea," John said and started searching through the yellow pages.
"Okay well I've got to go to work now...see you later," with that Kayleigh kissed John and existed the door.
"Hey Kayleigh...or shall I say Mrs Williams?" Jane asked.
"Gosh...Mrs?...that makes me sound old," Kayleigh laughed putting her files on the table.
"So where are you planning on going for the honeymoon?" Jane asked.
"Oh...the honeymoon...we haven't planned anything yet." Kayleigh said, as she flicked through her letters. She came across a creased envelope She opened it in curiosity. 'Stay away!' was written on the dirty piece of paper. Kayleigh didn't say anything, she didn't know who it could be. The envelope looked formal but the writing on the paper was written in what looked like blood.
"Kayleigh?" Jane asked.
"Huh...yeah?" Kayleigh said, she wasn't too keen on the sight of blood.
"Are you okay?" Jane asked worried.
"I'm okay," Kayleigh replied still staring at the letter.
Kayleigh got home, reading a note that was on the table.
Hey, I've gone for my first golfing lesson. Wish me luck. I cooked (bought) some food for you. I'll see you later. Bye, John xx
Kayleigh sat in front of the TV and ate. A knock came on the door. "Coming," Kayleigh said walking to the door. She opened the door but no one was there, she popped her head outside but still nothing, "Hello?" She said. After that she gave up and closed the door. She was about to go back to the TV but the door was being knocked on again. Again she opened the door, still nothing. She decided to ignore it and carry on watching TV. A soon as she turned around the door was repeatedly being knocked, harder and louder. Kayleigh turned around, she saw a silhouette through the fusion glass. Warily she latched on the door chain, slightly opening the door slowly and with the slightest gap, she anxiously looked to see if anyone was outside.
The corner of an eye could be seen through the gap.
"I told you to say away!" The voice warned.
Kayleigh could see metal shinning. Suddenly a hand launched a sharp metal through the gap.
Chapter 2
The person on the other side of the door, tried to push the door open. Kayleigh's heart was beating fast. Suddenly the chain on the door came lose. Kayleigh looked at the door horrified, she ran to the bathroom and locked the door. She leaned against the door, her head in her hands. Then heard the front door open wide and slam against the wall, loud footsteps stomping up the stairs. Loud tramples towards the bathroom door. Kayleigh moved herself from the door. Now she was facing the door which was shuddering from the banging. Sweat streamed down her face, her breathing becoming heavier. She then heard the knife against the door repeatedly. The room was dark so all she could do was hear the screaming, the banging and the metal lock ping; they seemed as if it was going to come loose.
Loud screams from the other side, "Let me in!" the womanly voice shouted whilst constantly banging on the door and turning the handle.
Kayleigh didn't answer, all the fear she held was freed by the tears staining her cheeks with mascara.
The woman turned around when she heard a car park in, "No!" she cussed, smashing a bedroom window and escaping.
Kayleigh couldn't hear a thing as it was drowned out by a million of terrified thoughts.
John saw that the front door was wide opened and many scratched had been made, he jogged inside to see if everything was okay
"Kayleigh!?!" he called looking through the rooms, he jogged upstairs to see the bathroom door closed, hearing whimpers. He knocked on the door, "Kayleigh?" No answer just more quiet whimpers. Kayleigh heard a voice, she instantly realised that the soft, worried voice belonged to John but she couldn't move, she felt paralysed and helpless.
"Kayleigh? Open the door please," John pleaded.
Kayleigh slowly got up, her whole body shaking, barely able to keep her hand still for the lock.
John heard the rattling of the metal locks. As soon the metal lock clicked John opened the door, he stared at an agitated Kayleigh, who was shaking, her arms crossed in a defensive gesture, "What happened?" he asked worried and walked towards Kayleigh with open arms. Kayleigh fell into John's embrace, sobbing on his chest.
"What happened?" John tried to ask once again but no reply came, just more wailing. He rubbed her back for comfort and kissed her on the head, "It's okay...it's okay...shh...you're safe now." John taped the broken window with cardboard. It wasn't the safest but it was practical thing. Then he went to lay in bed, watching Kayleigh who was sleeping but her facial expression showed insecurity. He couldn't read what happened but it obviously frightened her. She hadn't spoken a word since he came home. As he was thinking worriedly about Kayleigh, she shivered and grabbed the blanket tightly, gripping it close to her. John rubbed her arm soothingly to try and calm her down.
John woke up early, surprisingly. He saw that Kayleigh was still asleep, he thought that he should call her workplace to say she was too ill. Jane was worried but John couldn't say what happened because he didn't know himself, after much consideration he decided that it was better if he stayed home with Kayleigh rather than go to practise.
Kayleigh woke up, with a sick feeling in her stomach. Then she saw John with a tray in his hands, he smiled at her but she couldn't bring herself to smile back.
"Hey," John said.
"Hey," Kayleigh replied quietly.
"Can you tell me what happened yesterday then?" John asked, debating whether or not he should have asked her. Kayleigh shook her head, her fork just moved the food around.
"Okay, can you tell me who was in the house," John asked hoping that Kayleigh would open up to him. Kayleigh shook her head again. John didn't think he was going to get anything from her.
"I.." Kayleigh started to say in a shaken voice.
"You...what?" John sitting closer to Kayleigh.
"I'm...sc...scared," Kayleigh sobbed, weeps commencing again, tears descending down her cheeks.
John held both of Kayleigh's hands, "What are you scared of?"
"H...h...her," Kayleigh said with slight whispered.
"Who is she?" John said looking Kayleigh in the eyes.
Kayleigh couldn't really say as she could only see the corner of the woman's eyes, "I...I...coul..." Kayleigh gulped, she closed her eyes trying to think of a way to explain, "I...couldn't...s...see."
"Okay. Look why don't you get changed, there's somewhere I want to take you," John stated and smiled.
Kayleigh got out of bed and got ready. When they walked out the door John held Kayleigh's hand, their fingers interlocked.
"Where are we going?" Kayleigh managed to asked.
"It's a secret," John asked bringing Kayleigh in for a hug.
She smiled at him, her head resting on his shoulder as they walked. She felt secure, all the bad thoughts left her mind. John covered her eyes with his hands, guiding her to the place. He uncovered her eyes as she inhaled the fresh air. She looked around at the lake, plants and trees. Kayleigh looked at John strangely.
"Don't you think it's beautiful?" He asked.
"Yeah," Kayleigh said.
"It's especially beautiful at night," he said.
Kayleigh looked at John in nostalgia, she didn't really know why they were here.
"Haha," John laughed at Kayleigh's expression, "I brought you here so we could picnic."
"Awww," Kayleigh thought the gesture was sweet, "We don't have any food."
"Tada," John laughed when he revealed a basket.
Kayleigh laughed. They set out the blanket and food. The day went by quickly and soon it became dark.
"You're right it is beautiful when it's night," Kayleigh said looking at the dark sky, resting her head on John's shoulder with his arm around her, in the 'couple' style.
"Come on let's go home," John said lending a hand out to Kayleigh. They packed up the basket and headed home.
As they were walking to the house Kayleigh said, "Thanks for today, it was really sweet."
"Glad to see you smile again," John smiled at Kayleigh. They went inside the house.
"Well it's late I better get washing," Kayleigh said. John sat down to watch TV.
Kayleigh was in bed, whilst John was showering. The wardrobe door moved slightly. Kayleigh slowly walked over to the door. She opened the wardrobe. It was the same as it was left.
I must be going crazy Kayleigh thought to herself. She turned around, "Ahhhhhhh!"
Chapter 3
The woman gagged Kayleigh, all she could feel were rough hands, which pressured on her mouth and gripped on her arm. John could not hear this as the speaking was over-powered by the noise of the shower.
Kayleigh's body froze, she saw a scruffy, dirty-looking psychopath before her, who smelt of alcohol, cigarettes and illegal substances. Her hair looked un-brushed for months, her skin like sandpaper, her nails broken and yellow, the breathe an indescribable revolting, pungunt smell which was enough to make you sick, the colour of her sclera were yellow and her eyes blood shot, Kayleigh's stomach was starting to churn from the repulsive pheromones. The woman grabbed a pen knife from her pocket, the knife flicked it out of the plastic, she slowly brought it towards Kayleigh's pure face. Kayleigh wanted to call out but her voice was mute. John came out of the shower, strange he thought. He couldn't hear the sound of the TV or computer. Maybe she's asleep he thought again.
The woman heard the shower door creek, she looked at Kayleigh with her malignant eyes - if looks could kill. The metal came closer to Kayleigh's face and slide down her cheek slowly and painfully. The infliction represented by the heavy breathing, the tears, the eyes lids closing tightly to resist pain and the lose of innocent blood.
Kayleigh thought why her? She didn't even know this woman. The woman brutally withdrew her hand and pushed Kayleigh to the bed. Escaping through the window and said in a fiendish tone, "Speak of this then you will lose those who you truly love." With that she jumped. Kayleigh tamely touched her bleeding cheek, the blood staining her fingers. She went to go downstairs to wash it off...
"What happened to your face Kayleigh?" John asked when he came out of the bathroom. He lightly grasped Kayleigh's shoulder, then softly; with his thumb touched the cut. Kayleigh squinted in slight anguish, "What happened?"
"Sh...she did this," Kayleigh said covering the slit with her hand.
"Who?" John asked embracing Kayleigh.
"H...her...a...again," Kayleigh stuttered and sobbed.
All night John and Kayleigh stayed up because Kayleigh was afraid that her mind might re-iterate the ordeal. Eventually she fell sleep with John's arm around her whilst she leant on his shoulder. However, John couldn't sleep knowing that Kayleigh was unsafe. He was trying to find a conclusion to all this. Kayleigh woke up lying in bed covered in a blanket. She went downstairs in her sleeping clothes.
"Morning sleepyhead," John said whilst 'cooking', he was making toast.
"Morning," Kayleigh said with a half-sincere smile.
"Sorry about breakfast but the one I did yesterday looked awful," He joked.
"It wasn't that bad," Kayleigh said and laughed a little.
"Hmm...it was burnt," John said as-a-matter-of-factly.
"Yeah you're right...it was bad," Kayleigh joked.
"Hey...that was uncalled for," John said.
"Haha...don't worry you'll get better," Kayleigh said emphatically. All the bad thoughts exited her mind.
"Thanks for the toast but I better go to work," Kayleigh said, "See you later."
"Um...Kayleigh?" John said.
"Yeah?" Kayleigh said turning to face him.
"As nice as you look in sleeping clothes," John smiled, "You might want to change."
"Right," Kayleigh replied blushing slightly.
Kayleigh came downstairs and turned as if she was modelling the clothes. "Better?" She asked.
"Well the sleeping clothes were better but..." John sniggered.
"Hey! You need to calm you hormones down Mister," Kayleigh laughed.
"Haha...anyway I don't have practise today...can I go to work with you?" John asked, "I want to see what it's like." But as a matter of fact he wanted to protect Kayleigh.
"Um...sure...if you want," Kayleigh replied.
"Hey Kayleigh....John?" Jane hugged Kayleigh and looked behind to see John greet.
"Hi," John greeted back.
"Hey Jane, John wanted to see what work is like," Kayleigh hugged Jane whilst explaining.
The two weeks after that experience, every thing seemed to be normal. John had a special surprise for Kayleigh. She pestered him to tell her as the suspense was killing her but he managed to resist, even though she pulled the innocent look and used things to her advantage.
"Come on John, please tell me. Pleeeeaaaaseeeee?," He looked away. "Pretty please?" John refused again.
"Fine, I'll leave it," Kayleigh said rolling her eyes.
"F-i-n-a-l-l-y," John joked.
"Please?" Kayleigh quickly asked. John gave her the evils.
"Okay...okay I'll stop now," They both laughed.
Someone knocked loudly on the front door. Kayleigh sleepily said, "You get the door."
"No you get it" John said rolling to face the clock.
"No you get it"
"No you get it"
"Can you get it please?" Kayleigh asked. Another loud knock on the front door came.
"You get it," John replied.
"You...okay fine we'll both go," Kayleigh requested.
They both tiredly walked downstairs, whilst trying to make themselves look mildly presentable. The person knocked once more. Kayleigh opened the door, with John behind her. As she opened the door, "Ahh," she said walking backwards into John. He held Kayleigh around the waist as he was looking at the colour drain from her face.
"Hello Sir...Miss," the police officer said holding the psycho woman by the scruff of the neck, "This woman was lurking behind your bushes. Do you know her?" He asked and Kayleigh nodded.
"Well one of your neighbours called us saying a woman was roaming around," the officer said.
The second officer asked, "Can you tell us who it is?"
Kayleigh found it hard to talk, "Um..."
"It's okay, just tell them," John said rubbing her shoulders.
"Um...she d...did...this...to me," Kayleigh said pointing to the cut, which was concealed by a scar but still clear at view.
The psychotic woman got out of the officers' grips, "You!"
Kayleigh quickly leaned back further to John. The officers rapidly took hold of the woman again, "That's it Miss you're coming with us.
Anything you say..." the first officer said.
"No! Let me go! John loves me not that b...." the volume of the woman soon disappeared.
The second officer said, "Thanks for your help."
Kayleigh nodded whilst John said, "Thank you Sir." He closed the door. "Come here," John said obviously sensing Kayleigh's hurt.
She fell into his arms crying with what might be her last tears.
John rubbed her back and planted a kiss on top of her head, "Do you want to know your surprise?" John asked hoping that it would bring a smile to her face.
Kayleigh whipped her tears and shook her head.
"Well..."John started, opening the cupboard draw.
Chapter 4
"Ahh, please John?...Just tell me...you're killing me here," Kayleigh pleaded.
"Okay...close your eyes," John said.
"Oh, do I have to?" Kayleigh whined, like a kid.
"Please?" John asked with puppy eyes.
"Okay," Kayleigh gave in and closed her eyes.
"Hold your hands out please," John mannerly order.
Kayleigh cupped her hands out. John placed the gift on her palms. "No way...? I've always wanted to go there...aw...I love you! Thanks," Kayleigh gave John a massive hug.
"Now you get the perfect honeymoon," John said still being hugged.
"Aw...you are great you know?" Kayleigh said.
"I know," John joked.
"Hold on...are these
"Yep," John stated.
"Wow...you are too nice for your own good," Kayleigh said.
Kayleigh and John were packing up for their trip to , whilst they were packing someone knocked on the door.
"Coming," Kayleigh shouted from upstairs. "Hey Jane!" Kayleigh greeted with a hug.
"Hey Kayleigh...so are you two getting ready for ?" Jane asked.
"Yep we're packing right now actually," Kayleigh stated.
"Cool. I just needed to give you this," Jane passed her the wrapped package.
"Aw, thanks...what is it?" Kayleigh asked.
"You'll see. It's from Yours Truly," Jane said.
"Aw...thanks," Kayleigh said.
"My pleasure for passing you the gift but it's not from me. Anyway I've got to go now. Have fun in . Bye," Jane said waving to Kayleigh. Kayleigh smiled back to her.
She unwrapped the gift. It was a ring put on a gold chain. On the inside of the ring 'Kayleigh and John . One heart . One love' was engraved. The 'o' on love was replaces with a tiny diamond.
"Who was at the door?" John asked standing on the top of the stairs.
Kayleigh ran upstairs and jumped into his arms.
"Wow...the stairs...the stairs," John joked.
"Sorry," Kayleigh said withdrawing from the hug. "You spoil me too much you know?"
"You deserve it," John said.
"You do all this for me, now I have to do something in return," Kayleigh said. A big grin appeared across John's face.
"Not that...calm down boy!" Kayleigh joked hitting him lighty across the arm, "Come on we have to leave now."
At the airport they pushed the luggage bags. "I still can't believe that I'm going to ," Kayleigh said with John holding her around the waist. Kayleigh turned her head towards him and kissed him, "Thank you."
"Wow, first class...these seats are wider and so comfy," Kayleigh said sitting down as she brought out her notebook and started surfing the net, "Aw."
John asked when he saw Kayleigh getting teary, "What's wrong?"
"Oh I'm on a fansite of yours...I'm curious...reading fan fiction...a story by..." Kayleigh scrolled down the page to find out the author, "Mischa...she writes beautifully."
"Can I see?...what's the site called?" John said.
"Um...yeah...sure...and it's?" Kayleigh turned the notebook to John. John looked through the site curiously whilst smiling and giving some odd expressions.
"Can I go back on now?" Kayleigh asked.
John turned the notebook back to face Kayleigh and smiled. He leaned back on the chair, closed his eyes and relaxed in deep thought.
They were amazed- although a little jetlagged- with the scenery. "Wow it's beautiful," Kayleigh said taking in the scenery before her. Kayleigh and John went into their hotel presidential suite. It was more or less like an expensive apartment. Spacious, had just about the essential rooms and an amazing view.
They had taken a tour, floated the sea by moonlight cruises, taken evening strolls, took a dip in the sea, shopped and went to theme parks. The evening meals were exquisite, they tried new food which they wouldn't have thought was nice.
Kayleigh and John went to their suite back from a late night horse and carriage ride. The whole ambience was romantic, with the stars twinkling through the dark sky, the soothing pace of the carriage ride. John kissed Kayleigh softly on the lips, her arms wrapped around his neck. His sensual touch led Kayleigh to the bedroom. They fell on the bed, John's kisses trailing down Kayleigh's collar bone...
On the next morning John woke up finding the space next to him empty. He still recalled memories of the night before, he got out of bed to see Kayleigh in the next room. She sat on the sofa, with her head resting on her palms, a finger tapping on a cheek, staring at the coffee table.
"How come you're staring at the table?" John asked.
"I'm not," Kayleigh mumbled. John went to sit next to Kayleigh when he saw a pregnancy test placed on the table.
"Oh," he thought.
Chapter 5
John sat close to Kayleigh, his arm around her shoulder. She looked at her watch, whilst leaning on his shoulder. Kayleigh watched as the ticker rotated. She mentally counted down the 2 minutes.
Kayleigh covered her eyes with her hands, "I can't look John," Kayleigh said hinting for him to look.
"Okay..." John looked at the stick, "What does the blue thing mean?"
"Blue?" Kayleigh asked. John nodded, "That means...we're...I'm...we're having a baby."
"I'm going to be a dad?" John asked.
"We're going to be parents," Kayleigh said covering her mouth in shock. She always wanted to be a mum but she didn't expect it to be so soon, nevertheless she was happy. John hugged a still shell-shocked Kayleigh. Kayleigh smiled at John, "I can't believe I'm going to be a mom...what if I'm a bad mom? What if my kid hates me? My kid's going to hate me..."
"Don't worry you'll be a great mum...and our kid is going to love you," John comforted Kayleigh.
"Thanks...I can't believe we're having a kid," the situation still hadn't sunk into Kayleigh but John couldn't wait to be a father.
John woke up seeing Kayleigh read a magazine. He turned his attention to her stomach, "Hey Little One," he said in a soft tone tickling Kayleigh's stomach.
"Hahaha...that tickles...you do realise that there isn't a baby yet? It's just a zygote." Kayleigh asked in between giggles.
"Oh," John replied.
"Ha, don't worry it's cute," Kayleigh said, her thumb rubbing his chin. Then she thought aloud looking at her stomach, "Little One? That's cute. I like that."
John smiled. After resting on bed the two of them decided to get changed and go down for breakfast.
Kayleigh turned to John, "Hey John? What do you think our kid will be like?"
"Well if it's a girl I think it will be like you. Lord help me," John said jokingly praying that that not be the case.
"Hey!" Kayleigh pushed John a little.
"Sorry! I don't mind how our kid is...I'll still love them."
They walked around the buffet table, as soon as Kayleigh looked at the food she covered her mouth, "Uh-oh I think I'm going to puke." She ran out of the dinning room.
John ran after her, he quickly unlocked the hotel suite door and watched as Kayleigh ran into the bathroom. John knocked on the door, "I think we should leave breakfast."
"Good idea," Kayleigh said in between pukes. She eventually came out of the bathroom. Her hair was a mess, "You might not want to go in there." Kayleigh pointed to the bathroom, "I can't believe I'm being sick already.
"Aw...okay let's go for a walk," John suggested.
"Yeah lets go...don't you think it's a bit strange that the press aren't stalking us?" Kayleigh asked whilst sorting out her hair.
"Not really. I planned this all out. Press restricted," John explained.
Kayleigh laughed, "Haha...what did you do?"
John prodded his nose, "My secret."
Kayleigh linked arms with John, "So what do you think our baby is?" Kayleigh asked.
"I have a feeling it's a girl," John said.
"A girl, that would be nice but I think it's going to be a boy," Kayleigh said looking at John, who had a smile on his face.
"Just a week left before we go back to England," John stated.
"I'll miss being able to lounge about," Kayleigh said,
"Haha...you're so lazy," John said splashing Kayleigh with sea water.
"Oh no, you did not just soak me?" Kayleigh whined.
John did a runner as he knew what was coming next. Kayleigh chased after him then suddenly fell mid way through the sea, which was leading too the deep end, clutching her stomach.
John ran over to her worried, "Kayleigh, are you okay?"
"No! I'm...I'm..." she winced in pain. John helped Kayleigh up. Kayleigh pushed John into the deep end, "I'm getting you for that. Payback!" she laughed hysterically, "Ha ha ha, this pregnancy could work to my advantage."
"Not fair!" John said wiping the water off his face and combing his hair back with his fingers. He took his t-shirt off and wrung the water out. When he put it back on the t-shirt didn't cling onto his body, it looked creased but still could be seen through.
"Giving people eye candy are we?" Kayleigh joked.
"Can I help it if people want to look at me?" John replied in a sarcastic way.
"Come on before your head pops," Kayleigh said dragging him back. John followed like a little puppy.
"So what do you want to do now?" Kayleigh asked.
"I'm going to sleep," John said.
"Sleep?" Kayleigh asked, "Lazy."
"Yep!" John replied.
"So you're going to leave your pregnant wife alone?" Kayleigh said with eyes which could make the toughest person give in, making circles on his chest with her finger, innocently.
"Ah...the guilt trip," John said still looking at Kayleigh's eyes. "Okay...I was only joking anyway."
"Yay!" Kayleigh chirped whilst clapping her hands.
"Okay so how about I get ice cream and we watch a film?" John asked.
"Great," Kayleigh replied.
They decided to watch a comedy. Kayleigh had a craving for food so she ended up eating most of the ice cream. It turns out ? the ice cream was still there - she had slept before the film finished. John went to carry Kayleigh to bed, "Wow, you're heavy!" he whispered.
Kayleigh said with her eyes closed, "My eyes might be closed but I'm not deaf!"
"Ahh!" John dropped Kayleigh - stunned.
"Thanks," Kayleigh winced rubbing her rear.
"Sorry," John said in a concerned tone, which soon turned into a cheek tone and topped off with a cheeky smile, "Do you want me to rub it better?" he winked.
"Hardly," Kayleigh answered. "I'm having a bath...alone...just in case you get any ideas."
Kayleigh woke up at 6 only to run into the bathroom and throw up. John tiredly knocked on the door and asked, "Are you going to be okay? Do you need anything?"
"Let's just say when we're on the plane they better have a good supply of sick bags," Kayleigh replied.
It was the day after their return from . John and Kayleigh decided to tell the other's about the baby news. Jane had already found out by text.
"Hey guys," John greeted, holding hands with Kayleigh. They all replied simultaneously.
"We have something to tell you..." John said.
Kayleigh gagged herself and ran to the toilet.
"Is Kayleigh okay?" Danny asked.
"Yeah...about that, Kayleigh's pregnant!" John answered.
"With your kid?" Danny asked.
"Of course!" John answered not knowing how to take Danny's comment.
"Sorry guys," Kayleigh apologised. Everyone congratulated them. With a sudden out burst Alan asked, "Okay anyone want to place bets on the gender?" Money and 'it's a boy' or 'my bets on a girl" surrounded Alan. John and Kayleigh chuckled.
Kayleigh was, as usual, throwing up. John had to go to practise as normal but tried to come home as early as he could, especially for the check up days. Kayleigh was counting down the days of which she and John would be able to find out the gender of their baby.
"Hmmm...20-24 weeks...that means..." Kayleigh said calculating on the calendar, "Hey John...13 weeks until we find out if it's a boy or a girl!" Kayleigh shouted from the bathroom.
"Can't wait. I've got practise now. Will you be okay?" John asked.
"I'll be fine...go," Kayleigh shooed John along.
"K...see you," John said with a goodbye kiss.
"Bye," Kayleigh replied.
"Hey John!" Danny said trotting over to John.
"Hi," John said giving him a 'hey' nod.
"So how are you and Kayleigh?" Danny asked.
"We're great. She seems to have a fetish with ice cream and cookies though," John explained. "How are you and your lady?" John asked Danny.
"Good thanks," Danny replied.
"Do you think you'll have kids?" John asked Danny.
"Um...someday...maybe," Danny said.
"So what gender have you betted on," John asked curiously.
"Boy," Danny said.
John smiled, finding it quite funny that they were betting on the baby's gender. Speaking of bets John thought to himself.
"John!" Mathiew said patting John on the shoulder.
"Yes?" John said.
"Where's my money?" Mathiew said holding his hands out.
"Well...um...I sort of had to use it to get Kayleigh some ice cream and cookies...you know...need to stock up," John said from the top of his head.
"I forgot you're having a little nipper...congratulations! Give me the money as soon as you have it," Mathiew said walking back to the others.
Phew John thought.
"Honey, I'm home," John joked as he closed the door.
"Very funny," Kayleigh said from the kitchen.
John inhaled the aroma, "Mm...smells delicious!"
"It's only your favourite," Kayleigh walked over to the table and placed it in front of him. I think I've got the gist of it...to a tee now," Kayleigh stated.
"I'll be the judge of that," John smiled. Kayleigh passed him the plate. He tasted it.
"Well...how is it?" Kayleigh asked, "And be truthful."
"It's..." he took another bite, "Good."
"But..." Kayleigh said.
"I think you used too many onions," John said trying to wave away his now onion breath.
"That must have been when Jane called...I forgot how many I did," Kayleigh explained.
"Tomorrow we find out and tell your mates to see who won the bet," Kayleigh joked.
"Do you want to know yet?" John asked.
"I don't know...it would be nice to know...but it would also be a nice surprise," Kayleigh explained "You?"
"Well it would be useful so we buy what the baby needs...but I don't know either," John replied.
"Good point...maybe it would be better if we knew," Kayleigh thought aloud.
"So are we going to know then," John asked to make sure.
"Yep...I guess so," Kayleigh replied, she went in for a hug.
"Are you sure I can hug you I mean..." John said as his hands were gesturing a big stomach.
"Oi, cheeky!" Kayleigh said.
"Sorry," John answered going to hug Kayleigh.
"No way...you've lost your chance...you're in the dog house Mister," Kayleigh said. John look upset.
"Oh not the eyes...the face...it always works," Kayleigh had given in. John smiled and gave Kayleigh a bear hug without a sarcastic comment.
"Afternoon Mrs and Mr Williams," Dr Pringle, the paediatrician, said shaking hands with them both.
"Afternoon," John and Kayleigh replied.
"So how have you been coping with the baby?" He asked.
"Fine thank you," Kayleigh said.
"Okay so do you want to know what the baby is?" Dr Pringle asked.
John and Kayleigh looked at each other, "Yes."
"Okay take your place please," Dr Pringle said. He spread the scanning gel on Kayleigh's stomach and started moving the ultrasound scanner over the Jelly. "Well here's the baby..."
John held Kayleigh's hand tight stroking her hair.
Chapter 6
"Oh...I'm sorry," Dr Pringle said.
"What's wrong?" Kayleigh asked worried, she looked up at John wondering what could be wrong, she then turned her attention to the sonogram.
"It seems that you may have had a miscarriage," Dr Pringle said.
"A...mis...carriage...but...how?" Kayleigh wondered.
"Well there are many factors which can cause miscarriage. First and foremost it is not your fault. Miscarriages are touch and go. 1 in 8 woman have them, it is a matter of luck...some woman unfortunately have them, others don't," the doctor said find it hard to confront the two.
Kayleigh and John exited the room, looking down on the floor. John looked at Kayleigh in concern, Kayleigh returned the look but only for a while. As strong as face she was trying to hold she collapsed onto John's chest. She felt like a murderer, killing a life which once lived. A special suprise within her had gone, it felt as if she had lost a part of her. All John could do was comfort her in a hug as he couldn't find the words to speak. Tears started to prick his eyes.
A dream broken by the loss of something that was meant to play a big part in the future. Kayleigh was a firm believer in things happening for a reason but there was not a good enough reason for her to lose a child. Then she started questioning her motherly abilities, did she do something wrong or was there something she should have done better. The pain in Kayleigh's and John's eyes said it all, both of them were hurt, distraught and shocked.
John was driving but his vision was blurred by tears, his eyes were red because of the excessive tears which failed to stop. Likewise Kayleigh's appearance wasn't too different. She seemed to have taken it harder as she was carrying the baby. To lose a child is hard enough but for it to be your first child is somewhat worse. Needless to say there was silence and tension. Neither of them knew what to say as the word 'miscarriage' was playing on their minds.
Kayleigh and John sat on the sofa.
John spoke to try and comfort Kayleigh, "I..." He was unable to finish his sentence as once again Kayleigh cried into an embrace. "It's not your fault," John managed to say before tears threatened to fall once again.
"I...killed...our...kid," Kayleigh blubbered in between tears.
John thought it was better to let her cry it out as she wouldn't stop blaming herself despite his attempt to keep her calm.
Soon after they lay in bed but no words were spoken, just thoughts which floated through their minds. Until Kayleigh finally spoke since the bad news, "Was it something I did?"
Kayleigh's head lay on John's chest as he messed with her hair.
"We didn't do anything wrong and you certainly didn't. It is a situation which is unfortunately out of our hands," John softly spoke. Kissing Kayleigh lightly on the forehead.
"I know we didn't do anything wrong but I can't help but think I hurt our baby," Kayleigh's sentence became crescendo towards the end.
"Shhh...don't blame yourself...it will take a while to adjust but we'll pull through," John stated.
They spent the whole night talking about how they pictured life with children, how it would be to have someone call you 'mummy' or 'daddy', to watch your child grow, to see the smile on their face when they are happy, to be able to keep you child in safe arms when they are hurt or upset but that is all a fairytale compared to the reality.
Kayleigh and John barely got sleep through the weeks but they knew it was time to move on no matter how hard it was going to be.
Kayleigh was listening to the radio when the song 'Hero' started to play. She started to sing to it, "There's a hero if you look inside your heart. You don't have to be afraid of what you are. There's answer if you reach into your soul and the sorrow that you know will melt away..." A tear wanted to fall but Kayleigh held it back and continued to sing, "And then a hero comes along, with the strength to carry on and you'll cast your fears aside, and you know you can survive...That a hero lies in you." She finished and heard plaudits which slightly startled her.
"John?" she said.
"You have a beautiful voice you know?" John said.
"Thanks," was a mere word which exited Kayleigh's mouth as she tried to hide her blushes.
"I can't remember the last time you blushed," John stated.
"Yeah well that's because I haven't sang in front of you before," Kayleigh said passing John is breakfast.
"Yes you have," John said otherwise.
"That's only because I was hammered and you don't even drink so I hardly drink now," Kayleigh said laughing a little. John laughed also, replaying Kayleigh's drunkenness in his head.
"Thanks," Kayleigh said.
"For what?" John asked.
"It's the first time I've laughed since...well you know," Kayleigh said.
"Don't worry it's a hard part of life to overcome. I'd probably still be moping about if it wasn't for you," John said.
"How have I helped you?" Kayleigh asked.
"You know you don't actually have to speak or do anything to help someone...sometimes it's more about just being there," John said.
"Oh," Kayleigh said. "I don't think I want to get pregnant again. I mean I don't think I can go through this again."
"I understand," John said hiding the disappointment that he may never become a father again. John held Kayleigh in a warm embrace.
"I'm sorry but you know there are other ways of having kids," Kayleigh said trying to sound optimistic.
"Yeah?" John replied.
"Yeah...I mean there is insemination and adoption and things like that," Kayleigh said taking a sip from her tea.
"Do you want that though?" John asked.
"I guess not...just wouldn't be the same," Kayleigh replied knowing that she wouldn't want any children unless they were hers and John's.
Chapter 7
"Kayleigh?" John shouted putting his bag on the sofa.
"In the kitchen!" Kayleigh shouted back.
John gave Kayleigh a quick peck then went to the fridge, he was about to open the door when he saw a baby scan held up by a magnet.
"Yeah little wasn't he?" Kayleigh said also looking at the scan.
"He?" John asked.
"Yeah I called the doctor this morning...to ask," Kayleigh explained.
"Are you okay?" John asked realising that Kayleigh's eyes were starting to water.
"Yeah...you know, I've moved on..." Kayleigh looked at the picture and then at John with a smile, "...but it's nice to keep memories," Kayleigh said rubbing her eyes.
"It was nice though while it lasted," John said sticking the scan back onto the fridge.
"Yeah it was," Kayleigh replied.
"John?" Kayleigh said looking for him but no answer came. "John?" Still no answer. "Men," she cussed under her breath. She went downstairs to get an ice cube. She quietly went back upstairs. Tiptoeing into the room she pulled the neck line of John's t-shirt and dropped the ice-cube.
"Waaa," John screamed as he jumped out of bed and shuddered. He looked at Kayleigh whilst airing out his t-shirt to dry his back and the t-shirt, "Why did you do that?"
"I called you down for breakfast but you didn't come. I called you again and I see you snoring your head off," Kayleigh looked at John with her arms crossed.
"I don't snore," John retaliated.
"Whatever you think," Kayleigh replied. "Anyway your breakfast is done, be downstairs or die of hunger."
After a while John was ready and went downstairs.
"I see your highness has finally come down for his food," Kayleigh joked.
"What's with all these little cracks you're having at me?" John asked.
"Don't start," Kayleigh replied in a harsh tone.
"Sorry," John said not really knowing what he did to make her angry.
"No I'm sorry...you didn't do anything. I just feel bitter for no reason," Kayleigh exclaimed.
"Oh...you alright?" John asked concerned.
"I'm fine...I guess this miscarriage is going to take a long time to get over," Kayleigh felt her eyes welling up again. John went over to console her, then he felt his eyes going watery.
"Maybe we should go out...it might take our minds of things," Kayleigh asked John hoping that it would work.
"You sure?" John asked.
"Yeah...it's been a while anyway since we went out," Kayleigh replied cheering up.
"Where do you want to go?" John asked.
"Do you want to go to lunch?" Kayleigh asked.
"Do you want to?" John asked.
"Yeah...any suggestions?" Kayleigh asked, "Ooo how about that Frankie and Benny's?" Kayleigh asked.
"Yeah sure if you want to," John replied.
"Ugh...indecisive people. Let's go," Kayleigh grabbed her hand bag from the counter.
John went into the car.
"Ahem!" Kayleigh coughed still standing outside the car.
"Huh?..." John didn't quite know what the ?ahem' was for. Then it clicked, "Oh sorry." He trotted out and opened the door for Kayleigh.
"Thank you," she said as she got into the car.
John jogged back to the other side of the car.
"You don't know where you're going, do you?" Kayleigh asked as John was about to reverse out.
"Course I do," John replied slightly offended.
"Don't let your male ego get the better of you," Kayleigh stated in a stern manner.
"Okay...no," John replied.
"No you don't know where you're going or no you don't want to let your ego go?" Kayleigh asked.
"Okay...swap seats," Kayleigh said getting out of the car.
"Huh?" John asked.
"I'll drive," Kayleigh explained.
"You sure?" he asked.
"Yeah...come on it's not like I'm going to drive off a bridge. Don't worry your car is safe," Kayleigh replied sarcastically.
"Fine...you sure you're okay?" John asked slightly worried.
"I'm fine...can we go already?" Kayleigh asked losing patience.
John got out of his side and sat in the passenger seat.
"Okay so what do you want?" Kayleigh asked.
"Hmm...I don't know," John pondered looking at the menu.
"Okay...well...do you want to share a pizza?" Kayleigh asked.
"Pizza? Yeah sure...which one?" John asked looking at the pizza section.
The waitress asked, "Can I take your order?"
"Yeah...can we have a Hawaiian pizza and chips along side that please?" Kayleigh said.
"Sure, what drinks would you like with that?" The waitress asked writing down the food order.
"Um I'll have J55 thanks. John?" Kayleigh looked at John.
"Coke please," John replied handing the waitress back the menus.
"You doing anything tomorrow?" Kayleigh asked John.
"I've got practise and then I come home to my beautiful wife," John replied in a sarcastic tone taking hold of Kayleigh's hands.
"Haha very funny, so I'm ugly now am I?" Kayleigh asked not too pleased.
"No! Of course you're not," John asked.
"Well...argh," Kayleigh held her stomach.
"What's wrong?" John hurried over to Kayleigh's side of the table.
"Nothing I must be...um..." Kayleigh said.
"You must be what?" John asked in a worried tone.
"You know...oh my...gosh it's uncomfortable...you know the...?" Kayleigh said in a bit of pain.
"The what?" John asked still clueless.
"You know...things I get every month," Kayleigh asked.
"Things you get every month?" John asked himself.
Then a guy from another table turned around, "Mate I think she's on her periods."
"Periods? Ohhhh." John replied, "Thanks."
"My gosh I should have married that guy instead," the pain went a little, "Okay I need to go to the lady's room would you mind getting me some you know?" Kayleigh asked.
"What?" John asked, "Wait you don't want me to get? No way. I can't do that," John said waving his hands gesturing 'no'.
"Please...I don't want to...please...I can't anyway...please...I really need them...pretty please?" Kayleigh begged.
"Oh no now you're using the eyes on me...okay fine...I'll go now...but if anyone laughs at me you're-" John was interrupted.
"Sorry I really have to go," Kayleigh ran to the bathroom.
John got out of his seat and went to Sainsbury which wasn't far from it. "John!" someone from behind shouted.
John turned around, "Danny?"
"Hey what are you doing here? Where's Kayleigh?" John asked.
"Shopping and Kayleigh's at Frankie and Benny's you?" John asked.
"Yep same, what do you need to get?" John asked.
"Um...towels," John replied.
"We're just a couple of guys shopping," Danny stated.
"Yeah but you're shopping for food," John said turning an embarrassing shade of red.
"Yeah and you're shopping for towels," Danny said, "But I don't know if they sell towels."
"Um...not towels...I mean towels for girls," John said.
"I think they just don't sell towels in general," Danny replied not quite getting John.
"No, not towels...um...sanitary towels," John whispered the last two words.
Danny burst out laughing. "It's not funny...how am I meant to know what one looks like?" John asked.
"Really?" Danny asked.
"Really," John replied.
"Well I better go then," Danny said.
"Can't you help me?" John asked.
"What? No way...I don't know you here, if people ask okay?" with that Danny ran.
'Great,' John thought. He looked around the shop for a while then finally found them. He got a few weird looks from shoppers by. 'This could not get any worse,' he thought. He quickly got a small pack of towels and went to the counter. The queue was large on the counters. He chose a random one. When it was his turn he realised it was a guy serving. 'Great I'm a guy with sanitary towels,' he thought. The guy smiled in a worker-to-customer way. John felt extremely uncomfortable.
The guy at the counter moved the conveyor belt.
John handed over the money.
"Your receipt and your change."
John put the towels in a bag and went. The situation was bad enough. He went back to Frankie and Benny's walking towards Kayleigh.
"I don't feel like eating anymore. Did you get them?" Kayleigh asked.
John handed the bag with the towels in them.
"Thanks...you're great," Kayleigh kissed John on the cheek.
"Okay let's go," Kayleigh said.
"Gladly," John replied.
They got back into the car. John was driving.
"So how was it?" Kayleigh asked.
"How was what?" John knew what she was on about but wanted to erase the memory.
"Buying the towels?" Kayleigh said holding in her laughs.
"Why are you laughing?" John asked.
"Okay...I'm sorry I can't hide it... Danny told me," she burst out laughing.
"Danny told you? When?" John asked turning very red.
"Well he came to me and told me you were at the counter and that it was a sight. He even recorded you with his phone," Kayleigh explained.
"How did he get there so quick?" John asked, "Actually let's drop the subject."
"Okay...I'm sorry...I'm being mean," Kayleigh acknowledged that John wasn't too pleased, "I'll make it up to you."
A big smile appeared across John's face. "Not like that," Kayleigh gave him a light slap across the arm, "You're so dirty...too dirty in fact."
"No nookie then?" John asked with a cheeky grin.
"What? No! Behave! Is that all you guys think about? Keep your mind on the road," Kayleigh ordered, finding John's needs funny.
"Okay I'll stop," John replied.
"Good," Kayleigh smiled.
"But..." John was about to say something.
"No...just stop. You need a vasectomy," Kayleigh said.
The word vasectomy made John gulp.
"Ha I'm just kidding but if you carry on talking about that. I will call," Kayleigh threatened.
"Fine," was all John answered.
"Sorry!" Kayleigh said.
"For what?" John asked in a calm tone.
"I didn't need them," Kayleigh replied.
"You faked the whole pain then?" John asked not pleased.
"No that was annoyingly real but I already had some towels," Kayleigh explained.
"So I went out to get them because?" John questioned.
"Sorry I just wanted to see what you would do for me," Kayleigh explained.
"Wearing your clothes wouldn't have been half as embarrassing than that," John said referring to the shopping 'ordeal' but he also saw the joke in it too.
There was a couple of minutes of silence, "Kayleigh? Can I ask you something?" John asked still looking at the road but turned his head to look a her for a moment.
"Sure," Kayleigh replied. "What is it?"
"Please don't...um...get mad when I ask you this.." John stumbled on his words.
"Okay?" Kayleigh replied and wasn't sure where John was going with this.
"You know when you said you don't want to get pregnant again?" Kayleigh nodded, "Well do you mean never or was that a slight exaggeration?"
"I don't know I want kids...I really do...but what if the same happened if there was another baby to come along?" Kayleigh questioned.
"I don't know," John didn't know what to think Kayleigh was right but he always wanted to stay positive about this.
"You really want kids don't you?" Kayleigh asked looking at John.
John faced her for a few seconds and then reverted his attention to the road, "Someday." Kayleigh sat silence she didn't know what she could say.
"Do you really want kids...I mean really?" John asked Kayleigh with a mysterious face.
"I...I can't say...well...Let's say if I was pregnant right now...the memory of the other time will play on my mind. Please don't hold it against me?" Kayleigh held on John's right hand.
"I won't. I understand," it hurt John deep inside but he hide away his true feelings from Kayleigh. He flashed her a comforting smile, embracing her.
Kayleigh knew John wanted to be a father, I know he's unhappy, he's always wanted to be a father. Am I being selfish? Maybe I'm just thinking about myself she thought.
John and Kayleigh were in the lounge. The film they were watching had just finished.
"Okay I'll start dinner," Kayleigh rose from the sofa.
"I'll help," John insisted.
"Fine," Kayleigh smiled.
John's phone rang, "I'll be there in a bit."
Kayleigh went to the kitchen.
John: Hey Danny!
Danny: Hey, I take it Kayleigh told you?
John: Told me what?
Danny: What happened today?
John: Yes. Thanks for that!
Danny: (chuckles) No problem!
John: The thing is she...
"Argh," Kayleigh whaled, the noise of cutlery and crockery could be heard smashing on the floor.
"I'll call you back," John quickly replied. Cancelling the call and running to the kitchen.
Chapter 8
John called the ambulance. Kayleigh just crouched on the kitchen floor in pain. "You'll be okay," John comforted rubbing her back. Kayleigh didn't reply as she was in excruciating pain. John opened the door and pointed to the direction of the kitchen. Kayleigh was stretchered off into the ambulance. John sat besides Kayleigh holding her hand. Kayleigh laid there, eyes closed, breathing heavily. The oxygen mask condensated every time she tried to breath. "Can you tell me what's wrong with her?" John asked the doctor next to him.
"We can't say for certain. It will need to be clarified at the hospital where we can scan her," the doctor replied checking Kayleigh's pulse.
"Is she going to be okay?" John was worried, he couldn't bare the thought of losing Kayleigh.
"We aren't completely sure," was the reply.
"Mr Williams?" a doctor called.
John turned around from the window and walked towards the doctor, "How is Kayleigh?"
"She's fine...she's doing great actually," the doctor was holding Kayleigh's file, "The pain was due to her pregnancy..."
"Pregnancy? But Kayleigh isn't pregnant," John was confused about the pregnancy.
"The scan shows she is pregnant and has been for about 3 months," the doctor showed John the scan. John didn't know where their future baby was.
"Can I see her?" John asked eagerly. The doctor nodded and led John to Kayleigh's room.
Kayleigh was fast asleep. John sat on the arm chair next to her massaging her hand.
Kayleigh's eyelids slowly opened, "Hey." Kayleigh whispered squinting in pain.
"Hey, how are you?" John smiled seeing Kayleigh.
"Hurting," Kayleigh could only whisper her words but she still kept a smile.
"You're always smiling. Anyway is there something you need to tell me?" John quizzed, talking about the pregnancy.
"Like what?" Kayleigh tried sitting up on the bed.
"Your pregnancy?" John asked.
"Pregnancy? I said that I didn't know whether or not I wanted another kid," Kayleigh could speak a little easier.
"You're pregnant though," John said.
"No I'm not...you know that we haven't...you know," Kayleigh reffered to sex.
"I know" said John, with a look of disappointment, which he quickly changed, "but the doctor said you are 3 months pregnant," John gave Kayleigh the scan.
"What?" Kayleigh was more confused.
"Yeah...he said you were 3 months pregnant and that if you weren't brought in any sooner things could have been worse," John scratched the back of his head uncomfortable with the subject.
"So I'm really pregnant?" Kayleigh asked. John nodded.
"How? I mean we didn't," Kayleigh didn't know what to think about this pregnancy.
"I guess it was just a little surprise," John smiled.
"A little surprise. This is big...3 months...how did I not know...that would explain why my..." Kayleigh started to explain but the hushed herself.
"Your what?" John asked confused.
"Nevermind," Kayleigh answered.
"No go on," John persisted.
"No really it's nothing you'd want to know...being a guy and everything," Kayleigh explained.
"Oh okay," the memory of him shopping for towels came back to memory.
"So another baby, huh?" Kayleigh looked nervous, she didn't want the whole miscarriage deja vu.
"Are you okay with this?" John was happy that he would have another chance to become a father but he knew Kayleigh wasn't sure about this.
"Yeah...yeah of course I am," Kayleigh acted to put John's mind at ease.
"You sure?" John asked again.
"Yes," Kayleigh replied trying to stop John from asking her again.
"I should have guessed," John laughed.
"What? What's so funny?" Kayleigh asked.
"Well I did realise that you were getting very moody," John stated.
"Moody!" Kayleigh accidentally shouted. Slightly hurting in the chest.
"My point exactly, I'll get you some water," John smiled.
I'm not moody Kayleigh thought to herself.
John handed her the cup of water, "Here. Are you better now?"
"Thanks, yes, I'm much better," Kayleigh said.
"You had me worried," John cupped her face with his hands gently.
"Aw...why?" Kayleigh asked taking his hands from her face and placing them on the bed.
"After the car accident I thought I was lucky that you were still here. Then this happened I thought I would lose you," Kayleigh could see the worry in John's eyes.
"Aw...don't worry...you won't lose me that easily," Kayleigh patted the side of the bed for John to sit down.
John hugged Kayleigh, "I love you."
"I love you too," Kayleigh wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I love you more," John replied rubbing her back.
"Okay, okay I get it...wow...keep your hands where they were," Kayleigh hit John lightly across the arm.
"What!?!" John laughed.
"Is there ever a time when you're not frisky?" Kayleigh asked.
"I wasn't going to do anything," John put his arms up innocently.
"Okay sorry. I hate hospitals...5 days...please don't leave me," Kayleigh gripped onto John's hands.
"Ow you're getting stronger," John whined.
"Sorry," Kayleigh apologised.
"Don't worry the doctor said I could stay," John kissed Kayleigh on the lips.
"Aw...you're great," Kayleigh said then a acute pain hit her stomach.
"Are you okay? I'll get the doctor," John rose from his seat.
"No...don't...the doctor said this would happen...pass me the pain killers please," Kayleigh asked. John passed her the bottle of tablets and handed her fresh water.
"Thanks," Kayleigh smiled.
"You sure you're okay?" John asked.
"Yeah...don't worry but just in case I'm keeping these near me," Kayleigh looked at the tablets for a while and put them on the bedside table.
John woke up seeing Kayleigh staring at him, "Morning."
"Actually afternoon," Kayleigh smiled.
"Afternoon!" John looked at his watch.
"Yep...I need to wash," Kayleigh said.
"The doctor said you should stay in bed," John looked at a not too pleased Kayleigh.
"I stink...any longer I'll rot in my own smell," Kayleigh spoke seriously, which was answered with laughter. "I'm being serious...I need to wash," Kayleigh demanded.
"Can't you wait till after you come out. You only have to wait two more days," John looked out the window.
"That's okay for you. You can actually wash," Kayleigh moaned.
John turned around from the window, "I'd offer to wash you but no you have to stay in bed.... unless you want a sponge bath"
"Please ask them if I can leave early?" Kayleigh pleaded, changing the subject, wondering why men were so hormonal.
"I'm sorry but I wouldn't be a good husband if you came out earlier than expected," John looked at Kayleigh who was sitting with her arms crossed. May the mood swings commence he thought.
Kayleigh clicked on the nurse button. "What are you doing?" John asked.
"I feel gross...I have to get home," Kayleigh explained.
"You're trying to get out of hospital all because you smell," John asked.
"Yes and thanks for clarifying my smelliness-" Kayleigh answered.
"No I didn't mean it that..." John was interrupted.
The nurse asked, "Is everything okay Mrs Williams?"
"Can I talk to the doctor please?" Kayleigh pleaded.
"Sure I'll get him," the nurse exited the room. John shook his head and laughed.
The doctor entered, "What's the problem Mrs Williams?"
"I need to go home...I need to wash...I've been here 3 days and nothing has change...I've not been sick or anything," tears started to prick Kayleigh's eyes.
"I see the pregnancy has started kicking in," the doctor said to John, he nodded in agreement comforting an emotional Kayleigh. "Actually I was just discussing it earlier and there seems to be no reason why you can't leave now."
"Great so I can go now?" Kayleigh eyes filled with joy.
"Yes but you have to take it easy," the doctor ordered. Kayleigh smiled at John who kissed her on the forehead.
"So what..." John started to ask.
Kayleigh ran up the stairs, "Got to go wash."
John laughed walking into the living room and started cooking.
Kayleigh relieved said, "Ahhh it's good to be home and clean. Ooo you cooking?"
"Yep," John turned to look at Kayleigh and flashed her a smile, then turned his attention back to the food.
"When did you learn to cook?" Kayleigh joked sitting around the table.
"Ha ha," John replied.
"Love the apron by the way," Kayleigh pointed to the apron.
"Thanks, suits doesn't it?" John joked back wrinkling his nose.
"Very much," Kayleigh picked up a magazine.
"Your lunch is served," John said acting like a matre'd.
"Thanks," Kayleigh pecked him on the lips.
John took off the apron. "Aw...that looked great on you," Kayleigh teased.
"Now who's the frisky one?" John retaliated.
"Hey...I'm not frisky...I'm just happy to not be hospital bound," Kayleigh replied eating a potato.
"Hmm...okay," John sat down to join Kayleigh for lunch. "So how's Little One doing?"
Kayleigh's eyes watered. John felt guilty, "I'm sorry I..."
"It's not your fault...that nickname is cute...it just gives me happy memories," Kayleigh wiped her eyes with the back of her hand.
"Huh?" John wasn't completely sure what she meant.
"They're happy tears," Kayleigh smiled and carried on eating her lunch. John nodded in acknowledgment.
"So do you want to know whether or not the baby is a girl or boy?" Kayleigh asked John.
"There's still..." John worked out the number of week in his head, "...about 8 weeks left."
"Yeah I know...but I'm just asking," Kayleigh explained.
"Oh...I don't know...maybe...but it's up to you," John said.
"I think we should keep the sex a surprise," Kayleigh thought.
"The sex a suprise...who are we going to tell anyway?" John joked and winked.
"Huh?" Kayleigh didn't understand then it clicked, "No I mean the gender of the baby...you can go off subject so easily. Anyway I'm pregnant so...no!"
"Babies are cute don't get me wrong but a man needs-" John was about to finish his sentence.
"Okay I don't want to talk about this anymore," Kayleigh said rubbing her stomach. John gave her the puppy eyes, "No! No more. Anyway don't you have practise?"
John looked at his watch, "Oh yeah!" He quickly got out of his seat, grabbed his bag, kissed Kayleigh and left.
Kayleigh shook her head and thought, What have I got myself into?' she joked.
"Hey John," Danny shouted.
John turned around, "What's up?"
"Nothing...just that
Everyone turned around looking in the direction of Danny and John. They started to walk towards them.
"Oops," John faced Danny who shrugged his shoulders.
"Well I suppose the secrets out," Danny laughed.
"What did you just say John?" Alan asked putting his arm around John.
"He's going to be a daddy," Danny replied imitating John on the word 'Daddy'.
After a second for it to sink into everyone's mind John was bombarded with 'congratulations' and man hugs.
After everyone was told to get back to practise John looked at Danny, "Do you think Kayleigh's going to kill me?" Danny didn't know what he meant, "For telling everyone without her?"
"Yep," Danny tutted.
John walked into the house, opened the door. Kayleigh stood there with her arms crossed, her feet tapping the floor annoyed.
"Danny told me something not long ago," Kayleigh said in a serious tone.
"I'm sorr..." John was interrupted.
Kayleigh ran up to John and hugged him whilst pecking him on the lips, "Thanks."
"Huh?" John was beyond confused.
"For telling everyone...I would have loved to have told them also..." Kayleigh saw John looking shameful at himself, "
"Aw...you're blushing," Kayleigh embraced him once again.
John sat on the sofa whilst Kayleigh laid with her head resting on John's lap. John rubbed Kayleigh's stomach gently.
"So how did everyone take it?" Kayleigh asked her eyes looking up at John.
John smiled, "They took it very well...Alan's taking bets again." They both laughed.
Kayleigh held John's hand which was previously rubbing her stomach, "Typical."
"By the way the parents know," Kayleigh said.
"How?" John asked.
"Um I kind of told them," Kayleigh said innocently.
John laughed, "What did they say?"
"They were over the moon...they can't wait for the baby to get here," Kayleigh smiled but then the smile faded.
John saw this, "What's wrong?"
Kayleigh couldn't answer she just walked out of the room. She sat on the bed to rest, closing her eyes in deep thought. John walked up to see what was wrong. He saw Kayleigh resting. Kayleigh sensed his presence, opened her eyes and sat up but she couldn't look at John.
"Are you okay?" John sat next to Kayleigh.
Tears started forming she didn't know what to say or how to say it, "I...um..."
"You?" John looked Kayleigh in the eyes and saw worry.
"Um...don't get mad...but...but...um..." this was really hard, she didn't want to hurt John but there was no way that could make this any easier or less hurtful.
"Just tell me," John encouraged.
"I don't think..." the next part was going to hurt, to see his facial expression, she took a deep breath and here eyes wondered around the room, "I don't think....I can...have...this baby." Her eyes still wondered elsewhere. I tried to...stay strong...have this baby for John...but it's hard knowing that the same could happen.
Chapter 9
"Do you really want that?" John was trying to talk sense into Kayleigh, he was a little angered by her sudden change of mind.
"Yes," came a soft reply.
"What do you suppose we do with our baby then?" John questioned Kayleigh whilst trying to keep a calm tone.
"I don't know...maybe abort," Kayleigh looked beyond at nothing. She couldn't bring herself to talk face to face with John.
"Kayleigh...look at me," John stayed calm. Kayleigh turned to face John.
"I know this miscarriage has been tough on you. It's been tough for both of us...but do you think aborting this baby will make life better?" John asked trying to read Kayleigh's body language.
"I...I guess not," Kayleigh look into his eyes. Her mind drowned in thoughts.
"Nothing is going to happen to this baby," John cupped Kayleigh's face, smiling comfortably at her.
"But..." Kayleigh couldn't complete her sentence.
John held each of Kayleigh's hands, gripping them with protection, "We will do everything it takes to make sure the same thing doesn't happen."
Kayleigh only felt slightly reassured, "What if the same thing happened though?"
"It won't. I promise. In 6 months time we will have a beautiful baby," John ensured.
"I'm sorry," Kayleigh regretted her rash decision.
John held her close, "Shhh...it's okay." he said whilst rubbing her back.
"How do you do it?" Kayleigh asked withdrawing from the embarce.
"Do what?" John asked.
"Stay strong?" Kayleigh replied smiling at him.
"I'm not strong...just positive," John wiping her tears, "Now let's wipe you're eyes. I think you've stained my thumb with your mascara stuff." John joked.
"Shut up," Kayleigh retorted.
"So you're not going to do anything rash with the baby, right?" John wanted to clear things.
"No," Kayleigh smile sincerely.
"Really?" John asked just in case.
"Really...this baby is our future," Kayleigh rubbed her stomach.
John kissed her on the forehead, "Good." He smiled.
"That reminds me...I need to tell Jane the good news," Kayleigh went back downstairs to call Jane.
Jane: Hello?
Kayleigh: Hey Jane?
Jane: Hey Kayleigh. How are you?
Kayleigh: I'm great thanks and yourself?
Jane: I'm okay so what's up.
Kayleigh: I have some news...
Jane: Really...what?
Kayleigh: (Kayleigh laughed) Let me finish then you'll find out.
Jane: Sorry.
Kayleigh: Ha. Well I'm pregnant.
Jane: Really? Congratulations.
Kayleigh: Yeah 3 months...ish.
Jane: 3 MONTHS!! Why didn't I know about this sooner!
Kayleigh: Well I only found out about this earlier today.
Jane: Oh sorry for shouting.
Kayleigh: Don't worry about it. Anyway I'll talk to you later.
Jane: K see you!
Kayleigh: Bye!
John rolled on the other side of the bed. Only to be greeted with an empty space. He got out of bed and checked to see where Kayleigh was. The was no sign of her upstairs so he went downstairs, still no Kayleigh. He saw a note on the table with a sign of relief.
Morning,
I've gone shopping be back soon.
Love you, Kayleigh x
He heard the door unlock. Kayleigh figured John would be awake by now, "John!" she walked in with bags of shopping.
John walked up to her and greeted her with a kiss and warming hug, "Hey."
"Hey hun," Kayleigh smiled.
"I see you went shopping," John joked.
"Yeah but it's not for me," Kayleigh replied.
"For me?" John asked.
"No, I went baby shopping...I hope you don't mind," Kayleigh put the shopping down in the lounge.
"It's fine...what did you get?" John asked.
"Um...clothes..." Kayleigh thought of what else she bought, "Actually I've bought so much why don't we just look in the bags."
"How did you know what colour to buy? We don't know the sex of the baby," John looked through the bags of shopping, taking things out and then placing them back in the bag.
"Well pink for girls...blue for boys and....green or yellow if you're not sure about the gender," Kayleigh explained listing each point with a finger.
"So that's how it work huh?" John asked still rummaging through.
"Yep...I didn't buy everything though...I thought it would be better if we both went shopping for the Little One's room," Kayleigh suggested.
"You want me to help you shop?" John asked.
"It's our kid after all," Kayleigh smiled.
"How much did you spend?" John asked the dreaded question.
"Hmm..." Kayleigh worked out a rough estimate, "About...eighty pounds...baring in mind I still have things in the boot," Kayleigh explained.
"Just a eighty pounds? You're joking?" John saw how much Kayleigh had bought and it certainly wouldn't have come to eighty pounds.
"No I'm being serious...you can even look when my debit card bills come...actually look at the receipts," Kayleigh passed him the receipts.
"You got discounts?" John asked.
"Yeah...for once being married to you has worked to my advantage," Kayleigh joked. John took it to offence. "I'm only joking hun...you're the best hubby ever," Kayleigh laugh but was sincere.
John smiled, "Let's take the rest in."
Kayleigh opened the boot to her car. "Whoa, did you but the whole shop?" John joked.
"Ha I would have but I don't earn as much money as you?" Kayleigh stated.
"You know the doctor told you to take it easy?" John asked.
"I know...don't worry...I had my own personal shopper...she wouldn't leave my side...I think she has a little crush on you," Kayleigh passed some bags for John to take. "But she was a lot of help."
"You could have told me...I would have come?" John insisted.
"I know...but you looked so peaceful asleep," Kayleigh closed the boot and walked back into the house.
"Do you want to go out for dinner?" John asked.
"Sure...I can cook though if you want?" Kayleigh said folding the new clothes.
"I think it would be nice if we went out...after all you're meant to be taking easy," John highlighted the words 'taking it easy'.
"I know...don't worry I won't over work myself...luckily my boss was kind enough to give me maternity leave early," Kayleigh walked into the kitchen to pour herself a class of water.
"So how is the jewellery design going?" John asked.
"Hmm it's been going great people are starting to like my designs," Kayleigh stated.
"So are you going to do anything about your talents?" John asked.
"Not really no," Kayleigh replied.
"I think you should open your own shop, sell your designs," John said.
"You think? I can't though when we have the baby I want to dedicate 100% of my time to them," Kayleigh touched her little bump.
John put his hand over Kayleigh's, "I understand but you can bAlan ce it out...you like creating jewellery right?" John asked.
"Yes...but-" Kayleigh was cut off.
"Then make your dreams reality. I'll support you all the way," John embraced Kayleigh supportively.
"That's sweet...but what about the baby...I don't want to hire a nanny to look after our child," Kayleigh wasn't really keen on a nanny because she thought Celebrities now-a-days depended too much on them.
"We both play a part in our baby's life. Just think about please?" John knew this was Kayleigh's dream so he thought he'd help her along.
"Okay...I'll think about it but there is no guarantee I'll go along with it," Kayleigh pictureed how her shop would look like.
"Okay, that's fine with me," John smiled, kissing the top of Kayleigh's head, his fingers interlocking with hers.
Kayleigh and John went to a restaurant. It wasn't posh but at the same time the food wasn't cheap. Kayleigh wore a nice pale yellow off-the-shoulder dress, "This place is nice."
"Yeah I was told it had nice food," John answered.
"Is there something you want to ask me," Kayleigh asked.
"Huh? How did you know?" John asked.
"You have that nervous 'how should I tell her look?'," Kayleigh replied, chuckling lightly.
"Yeah you're right," John rubbed the back of his neck.
"What is it then?" Kayleigh smiled at John.
Chapter 10
"It's about the baby?" John said calmy.
"Okay," Kayleigh answered.
"Are you sure you want to have a baby? Because I don't want you to think that I'm making you," John said.
"Yes I'm positive. Honestly. I want to have a kid," Kayleigh looked into John's eyes. He could tell it was sincere, "Don't worry okay. I'm not going to do anything to harm our baby. So what shall we eat?" John laughed at Kayleigh as she looked at the menu.
Kayleigh sat up on the bed and walked downstairs. She had a check up later that afternoon. John was given permission to leave practise early.
"Okay guys I'm going now bye," John waved.
"See you at next practise," Mathiew said.
Alan called out, "
"I can't, me and Kayleigh decided to keep it a surprise!" John told Alan.
"
"Yeah sorry," John shrugged his shoulders and left.
"Hey!" John called out closing the door behind him.
"Hey hun!" Kayleigh called back from the lounge.
John laughed as he saw her watching TV whilst eating Ben and Jerry's ice cream. Then he saw what she was watching, "Is it safe to be eating that whilst your watching this?" John asked a little disturbed.
"What? She's only giving birth plus I finished the ice cream way before. I'll tell you something though...I am not looking forward to going into labour," Kayleigh laughed getting up to throw the ice cream carton away.
"I'll take care of that," John offered.
"Thanks," Kayleigh's continued to watch the television screen.
"It's time to go!" John came back from the kitchen.
"Okay," Kayleigh switched off the TV.
At the waiting area, they sat patiently. "You're shaking," John pointed out as he was holding Kayleigh's hand.
"I just want to know that our baby is fine," Kayleigh just stared at the blank wall in front of her.
John tightened his hand grip, "Our baby's fine."
"Mr and Mrs Williams?" The doctor called out looking around the room.
Kayleigh and John looked at each other and walked into the room. The doctor rubbed some scanning gel on to Kayleigh's stomach. She felt a slight tingle when the ultrasound scanner touched her bump, "Here's the baby."
John kissed the top of Kayleigh's head as they both smiled, then Kayleigh waited to ask the important question, "Is our baby okay?"
The doctor replied, "The Little One seems great...everything is okay."
Kayleigh felt happy with the news. She held on to John's hand which rested on her shoulder.
"Would you like the know the sex of the baby?" the doctor asked.
John and Kayleigh looked at one another, "No."
"Okay...that's fine. I'll just give you a copy of the scan."
Kayleigh walked of the room with John, she couldn't help but stare at the scan.
In the car Kayleigh turned to looked at John, "John? I just want to apologise for any mood-swings because the bad ones start now," Kayleigh joked.
"Great. I'll get the dog house ready," John laughed.
"Be quiet. I'm not that bad," Kayleigh laughed.
"So are you okay now?" John waited for the traffic lights to turn green.
"Yep, everything is perfect. Although I'm in a mood for cookies and ice cream," Kayleigh rubbed her stomach. "I think the baby wants some too."
"Okay I'll go to the shops just as long as I don't need to buy any towels for you," John stated.
Kayleigh laughed, "No you don't need to - ever."
"Phew!" John parked the car, "I'll be back in a minute."
"Do you want me to come in with you?" Kayleigh asked.
"No you stay here, I shouldn't be long anyway," John closed the door and jogged to the shops.
"Looks like it's just me and you for now baby," Kayleigh softly rubbed her stomach and felt a little kick, "You're just like your father. Lord help me." She laughed. "Speaking of your father."
John opened the car door, "Hey" he put the shopping on the back seat.
"I think our baby's going to be just like you," Kayleigh smiled at her bump.
"Yeah?" John asked.
"Yeah he's extremely lively," Kayleigh joked but John didn't realise.
"That reminds me do you want to go to see me and the lads this Sunday?" John asked.
"Is your family going to be there?" Kayleigh asked.
"Yeah?" John thought she might have a problem with his family.
"Great I'll be there," Kayleigh smiled.
Kayleigh was at the VIP area with John's family. She greeted them with a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
"How's the baby?" John's mum asked.
"It's great thanks. Do you want to see the scan?" Kayleigh asked.
They all nodded. Kayleigh placed the scan on the table. The scan was met with aw's and "that's my grandchild".
John's family went home. "Hey hun," Kayleigh smiled waiting near the car. "You were great," Kayleigh joked. "Ow!" Kayleigh felt a kick.
"What's wrong?" John asked walking towards Kayleigh.
"Nothing...the baby just kicked.." Kayleigh said as she rested on the sofa.
Chapter 11
Kayleigh hobbled into the sofa. As she sat down she watched TV, once again watching Living TV - a birth programme.
"Do you want ice cream?" John shouted from the kitchen.
"Yes please," Kayleigh called back, eyes locked on the screen.
After a couple of minutes John came back from kitchen holding a bowl of ice cream with cookies on the side. "Thanks," Kayleigh replied her facial expressions changing as the birth process went on.
"Please change the channel?" John asked.
"Why?" Kayleigh asked.
"You've got ice cream," John answered.
"But it's interesting," Kayleigh's eyes hadn't come of the screen.
"Yeah and who's going to be cleaning up the sick?" John asked hinting himself.
"Point taken. What do you want to watch then?" Kayleigh asked.
"Why don't we think of names for the baby?" John suggested.
"We've still got four months left? I suppose it doesn't hurt to be prepared," Kayleigh said taking a spoonful of Cookie Dough. "I'll get the baby books," Kayleigh took out two books from the small coffee table shelf. They each took one.
"Okay so what names to do you want too look at first?" Kayleigh asked.
"Hmm. Girls," John looked through the books. He randomly picked a page. "Paris?" John asked.
"No way," Kayleigh replied.
John knew the answer before, he laughed, "Okay...hmm..." John skimmed down the pages to find names which caught his attention.
"Okay how about we look through the book and whatever names each of us like we write down...therefore no false opinions...then when we've read through the books we'll see which names match," Kayleigh suggested.
"That works for me," John stated.
Half an hour passed, "Okay I'm done," Kayleigh smiled closing the book and placing it under the table again.
"Me too," John said.
Kayleigh yawned, "Okay so do you want to go through the lists now?"
"Maybe tomorrow, you're tired," John smiled taking the finished bowl of ice cream.
"I'm not...I'll be fine...I want to go through the names," Kayleigh insisted but then she yawned again.
"Go to bed," John ordered but in a laughing manner.
"But...the names," Kayleigh said pointing the list.
"Kayleigh, you're tired. Go to bed," John tried to persuade.
"Aw...but I want see what names you chose," Kayleigh persisted.
"Okay that's it," John swept Kayleigh off the sofa and carried her upstairs. "Jeez I forgot...you're gaining weight."
"Oi cheeky...put me down," Kayleigh laughed as John ran up the stairs.
"I don't feel tired anymore," Kayleigh said sitting up on the bed.
"Good night," John said.
"John!!" Kayleigh said with a stern voice.
"Ha ha okay...I'm only joking," John laughed. "You're weird," John stated out of the blue.
"And why would that be?" Kayleigh asked intrigued.
"Well most pregnant woman get tired; you are the opposite," John said chuckling a little.
It was five months and three weeks into the pregnancy. John had to leave early for practise as Mathiew wanted to have a talk with the lads about their behaviour. "So, you thought of a name for the kids?" Jane asked.
"Well we...no...we've looked at what names we like and everything but we haven't narrowed it down yet," Kayleigh answered looking through the shop windows.
"Hey isn't that Danny," Jane asked looking towards the pharmacy.
Kayleigh squinted her eyes, "Hmm...yeah it's Danny...isn't he meant to be practise?"
Jane and Kayleigh walked towards the pharmacy.
"Hey Danny," Kayleigh smiled.
"Hey," Danny replied
"Oh Danny... Jane.... Jane... Danny," Kayleigh introduced the two, they both replied shyly with a 'hi'. "So what are you doing here? Aren't you meant to be at practise."
"Yeah I would be if it wasn't for this cold I have," Danny said.
"Oh right...sorry...come to think of it now your nose is a little bit like Rudolph," Kayleigh joked.
"Haha...funny...how are you and the baby doing?" Danny asked whilst he picked up the medicine.
"Great thanks...since you're probably home alone why don't you come shopping with me and Jane?" Kayleigh asked.
"You sure you want to be around someone with a cold?" Danny asked.
"It's no problem just walk next to Jane...can't let the baby get ill," Kayleigh joked.
"Sure," Danny answered and then sneezed.
"Okay maybe you shopping isn't a good idea...I'll tell you what...why don't you and Jane come over... John won't be home till late anyway." Kayleigh suggested walking to the car.
"I'll get you some water, Danny," Kayleigh said as she got into the house.
"It's okay thanks...I'll get it," Danny trotted to the kitchen.
Kayleigh stared at her bump, "Just over 4 months till I start screaming for England." Kayleigh joked.
"Are you looking forward to conceiving then?" Jane asked. Danny walked back into the room just as Jane said conceive.
"Okay. Never mind," Jane laughed.
"Let me switch on the TV for you two because I need to 'go'" Kayleigh laughed. As she switched on the TV the Living TV appeared and a display of a mother giving birth, screaming appeared.
Danny's eye popped out. Jane pulled a strange face. "Oops sorry...I was curious...ahem anyway," she flicked over to a random channel. "Again sorry. See you both in a bit," Kayleigh said as she made her way upstairs.
After a couple of minutes Kayleigh's phone rang. Jane thought she'd pick as Kayleigh wasn't available, "Hey."
"Jane?" John questioned.
"Hey... Kayleigh's in the bathroom right now...how's practise?" Jane asked waiting for Kayleigh to come out of the bathroom so she could answer the phone.
"Well the boss isn't happy so it's getting tough... Danny's not here..." John was stopped.
"Yeah I know he's here," Jane stated.
"He's what?" John asked making sure he heard right.
"He's here," Jane repeated.
"Why...that cheeky..." he said whilst Kayleigh was downstairs.
"Kayleigh, John is on the phone," Jane whispered.
"Excuse you!" Kayleigh said when John accidentally abused the wrong person.
"Kayleigh? Oh no, not you...I was talking about Danny," John said worried that Kayleigh would have taken it the wrong way.
"Hmm. Don't be nasty he's not feeling well," Kayleigh replied. Danny smiled to himself.
"Sorry," John said.
"It's okay Hun but you should really be saying that to Danny," Kayleigh said. "Anyway did you want to talk to me?" Kayleigh said.
"Just to see how you were. No bad pains are there?" John asked looking to see if anyone was behind him.
"You worry too much...I'm fine...I've got company so it's all good," Kayleigh replied smiling at the other two.
"Okay...well...I better get back to practise...I was only suppose to go to the toilet," John laughed.
"Okay then bye...and
With that John cancelled the call and got back into practise just in case he got the hairdryer treatment.
"Men," Kayleigh laughed.
"What's wrong with us?" Danny asked.
"Nothing...it doesn't matter," Kayleigh explained "Danny? I think you need tissue." Danny ran to the kitchen for tissue.
Kayleigh followed, "You know what? You should try this." Kayleigh brought out medicine, "It helped me out a lot. It works quick too. Here, take it."
"Thanks," Danny said. "Could you do me a favour?" Danny asked shuffling his feet.
"Sure," Kayleigh smiled.
"Could you ask Jane how she feels about me?" Danny asked shyly.
"Aw...do you like her?" Kayleigh asked.
"Yeah," Danny whispered.
"I'll see what I can do. You stay here and I'll talk to her okay?" Kayleigh peeped out the door and nodded to Danny, signalling that she was going to help.
"Jane?" Kayleigh call softly. "What do you think about Danny?" Kayleigh asked. Danny stood unnoticeably by the door frame.
"He's hot!" Jane wasn't afraid to voice out her opinions.
Kayleigh laughed, "So if he asked you out you wouldn't say no?"
"Hell no," Jane replied and laughed at her forwardness. "I'd ask him out myself but I'm scared that I might scare him away." Danny smiled to himself.
"He's better than John," Jane laughed.
"Hey, that's my husband you're talking about," Kayleigh laughed.
"Sorry...you know I'm only kidding," Jane smiled.
Danny walked into the room, it went silent. "So...." Kayleigh said hoping one of them would speak up but answer. "Okay shall I do this?" Kayleigh asked Danny, Danny smiled with approval. "Fine. Okay, I feel like a Minister right now. Jane?" Jane looked at Kayleigh, "Will you go on a date with Danny,?" Jane didn't answer she smiled. "Danny? Jane would love to take that date with you." Danny and Jane smiled to each other.
It had been fourty-five minutes since Danny and Jane were introduced, they had been talking to get to know each other better. The front door opened.
"Kayleigh?" John called out.
Kayleigh jumped into his embrace, "Heya...missed you!"
"Missed you too," John replied with a peck on the lips.
"I'd like you to meet to newly couple," Kayleigh showed John.
"Well actually we're seeing how it goes from here," Jane corrected.
"Pur-lease...you two haven't taken your eyes off each other since I "married" you," Kayleigh laughed.
"Huh?" John pulled a clueless face.
"Don't worry I'll update you later Hun," Kayleigh exclaimed. "Why don't we all go out for dinner?" They all agreed.
"Jane you make me look bad," Kayleigh said, her emotions started to kick in.
"Why? You look great," Jane replied.
"Look at you...your dress fits you perfectly...and look at me...I'm a frumpy woman," Kayleigh said
"No you're not...you're just emotional right now...you look great...just think in a few months you will have a beautiful baby," Jane comforted Kayleigh.
"Aw thanks...I can't wait to have this baby," Kayleigh smiled.
At the table John and Danny drew the chairs out for Kayleigh and Jane to sit in. Danny then passed Jane a rose.
"Aw look Danny bought Jane a rose," Kayleigh smiled. "Where's mine?"
"Thanks Danny," John said sarcastically.
"No problem, mate," Danny said patting John on the shoulder.
"I'm only joking...you don't need to get me flower. We're having a baby...that's the greatest gift," Kayleigh smiled towards Jane and kissed John on the cheek.
"Actually..." John brought out a dozen roses for Kayleigh.
"Aw...where did these come from?" Kayleigh asked smelling the roses.
"My secret," John smiled.
"Aw...these are beautiful...thank you," Kayleigh said.
John secretly poked his tongue out to Danny, who nodded his head.
"Aren't they a cute couple?" Kayleigh said undoing her bun.
"Yes," John replied.
"Shall we talk about the baby names now?" Kayleigh asked.
"I'll get the lists," John smiled.
"I'm excited," Kayleigh sat on the bed.
Chapter 2
Kayleigh and John had been discussing boys and girls names for over an hour. Their choices weren't too different. "I didn't think thinking of names would be this tiring," Kayleigh yawned.
"I think that's you pregnancy kicking in," John smiled.
"Aren't you tired?" Kayleigh asked John, yawning and adjusting her position.
"Not really," John said shaking his head.
"Okay so do you want to go shopping for the furniture?" Kayleigh asked. Her belly was one which matched the size of a seven month pregnant woman.
"What furniture?" John asked.
"The baby's room," Kayleigh replied.
"We don't know the sex of the baby, how are we going to know what to buy?" John asked.
"Well we just pick out the nice stuff which could be for both and then add some accessories to suit the baby," Kayleigh said.
"Oh okay," John went upstairs to get fully ready. When someone knocked on the door.
Kayleigh saw Danny smiling, "Hey Danny...come in!"
"Thanks."
"So why are you here?" Kayleigh asked closing the door.
"Just to say..." Danny didn't finish his sentence he just embraced Kayleigh in a tight hug.
Kayleigh patted him on the back, "What's this for?"
"For...well...you know...Jane," Danny scratched the back of his neck.
"Aw...it's okay but I didn't do anything," Kayleigh replied.
Danny gave her another hug as a thank you. "Danny? Don't tell me you're cheating on Jane already," John joked.
"No...I was..." Danny tried to explain himself.
"I know...you were Jane this...Jane that," John said his hand making a nattering gesture.
"John! Don't be so mean. I bet you were the same," Kayleigh said but she just guessed. John had no answer.
"Aw...blushing now...anyway I'm glad you found someone you like Danny," Kayleigh smiled and rubbed his arms.
"Thanks...she's um...*cough* pregnant *cough*," Danny didn't really want to make it clear because he knew the shock people would feel.
"Sorry?" Kayleigh asked.
"She's *cough*..." Danny looked at the plain wall.
"She's pregnant!" Kayleigh answered hand to her mouth. Danny smiled guiltily.
"You two work fast," John joked not knowing how to really act.
"Congratulations!" Kayleigh said.
"You're not angry?" Danny asked.
"Course not...but 5 weeks..." Kayleigh said quite speechless.
"I know," Danny said.
"You two are like rabbits," John laughed. "No wonder why at practise..." he looked at Kayleigh, "Ahem...never mind."
"At practise what?" Kayleigh asked looking at John then turning her gaze to Danny. They both rubbed their necks in discomfort. "No come on guys...you can tell me," Kayleigh insisted.
"Do you really want to know what guys talk about?" Danny asked.
"Okay...forget I asked," Kayleigh stated. "So where's Jane?" Kayleigh asked dismissing the conversation.
Kayleigh saw Jane, "Jane! You dirty girl!" Kayleigh laughed.
"Haha so I guess Danny told you?" Jane asked a little embarrassed.
"Well I knew anyway," John replied.
"What? You knew? And you never told me?" Kayleigh asked.
"Well...um...I was...I was sworn to secrecy," John hoped she was okay with it.
"Is this true?" Kayleigh looked at Danny. Danny shook his head. "Okay," was all Kayleigh said. "So...
Jane and Danny smiled holding hands. They sat around the table looking at what there was to eat before ordering.
"John?" Kayleigh said holding on to his arm.
John put down his fork, "What's wrong?" John was starting to get worried.
"I think we need to go to the hospital," Kayleigh said in between breaths. John and Danny helped Kayleigh up.
Kayleigh was in a room waiting for the doctor.
"Are you okay?" John asked holding Kayleigh's hand.
"I'm fine," Kayleigh smiled breathing hard because of the pain.
"Mr and Mrs Williams?" The caregiver asked looking at his clipboard. "So what's the problem Mrs Williams?"
Kayleigh described the pains in her stomach.
"How long have you been pregnant for?" The caregiver asked looking at both John and Kayleigh
"7 months," Kayleigh replied, squinting with pain.
"By the sounds of it you are going to have a premature labour," the caregiver smiled.
"But it's only been 7 months," Kayleigh stated looking at John worried.
"We are going to take you to the specialist unit okay?" the caregiver asked.
Kayleigh nodded. She was being wheeled out of the current room.
"Is Kayleigh okay?" Danny asked whilst him and Jane rose from their seats.
"Yeah, she might be going into labour," John smiled.
Danny and Jane smiled walking with John. After a couple of minutes Danny, Jane and John were in the room with Kayleigh. John sat on the seat next to Kayleigh. Danny and Jane were stood on the left side of Kayleigh.
"So how are you Kayleigh?" Danny asked.
"I'm okay. A little drugged up I have to say," Kayleigh joked. "I was given steroids...something do to with helping the baby's lungs develop faster."
"Really?" Jane asked.
"Yeah...it will take about 24 hours for it to work. My mouth feels dry," Kayleigh stated. John passed her a cup of water.
Late at night Kayleigh was sleeping.
"Guys...you can go home...I'll stay with Kayleigh," John whispered to Danny and Jane.
"You sure?" Jane asked,
"Yeah. I'll call you if anything happens," John said, stroking Kayleigh's cheek.
Danny and Jane left the room quietly.
Kayleigh slowly woke up from her sleep. She saw John's head laying on the side of the bed, his hands still lightly gripping hers. She smiled, "Bless."
After a few minutes John sat back up, blinking his eyes and looked at Kayleigh, "You okay?" John asked yawning.
"Morning and yes I'm okay," Kayleigh smiled.
"What are you smiling at?" John asked grinning.
"Your face is wrinkled...if you get me?" Kayleigh laughed.
John looked at the mirror, "Ah."
"Won't be long now till we have our own kid," Kayleigh rubbed her stomach lightly.
"Yeah. Do you need anything?" John asked.
"No...I'm fine," Kayleigh answered going into a little daydream of how family life would be.
"Still feeling pain but I'm great," Kayleigh answered adjusting her position.
"Well it seems as if your ready to have the baby."
John smiled and pushed Kayleigh's loose hair back, "This is it."
Kayleigh went to the c-section. John waited outside eagerly. His foot tapped rhythmically to the ground. Leaning back on the chair. Anxiety was growing in him. He wanted to see Kayleigh, to be there for her. He looked at his watch but he was still waiting for light on top of the door to turn green. He smiled at the thought that soon he would have a baby boy or girl.
"John! How is she?" Kayleigh's mom called out.
"I don't know," John answered giving her mum a hug.
Kayleigh's dad gave him a hug, "You have made me the proudest grandfather."
Then John's family ran walked through, "Hey mum." He greeted everyone and they talked for a while. The situation was quite emotional.
The thought excited him. Once again he looked at his watch, when the door swung opened.
"Mr Williams? The baby is here!" the doctor smiled, "The rest of the family can come in if they want.
John had the biggest grin on his face. He took a deep breath and rose up from the seat. Dusting himself off and walked to the room. He saw Kayleigh who turned her head to smile at John. He looked around for the baby.
"They're cleaning him off," Kayleigh smiled, her eyes filled with tears.
John walked over to Kayleigh and sat at the side of her bed.
"How are you?" John asked watching the midwives as they clean the baby. Then it clicked, "Wait, are we having a boy?" John asked.
Kayleigh shook her head, fresh tears streaming her face.
"A baby boy," John was starting to feel the emotions. He kissed Kayleigh on top of the head. "I can't believe we finally have our own kid," John said wiping the tears from his eyes. "How was the operation then?"
"It was weird but I didn't feel anything. Thank the Lord for the epidural," Kayleigh laughed.
"Your baby boy," The nurse said handing over Kayleigh's and John's new born to them.
Kayleigh held the baby, "Aw, he's so small. Look at his little hands and his little feet." Kayleigh covered the baby with the lose blanket.
John played with the baby's little fingers.
The doctor went up to the two, "So have you got a name for the beautiful boy?"
Kayleigh and John looked at each other and smiled, "Sherlock." Kayleigh smiled.
"Sherlock?" John repeated. He knew that was not one of the names on the list.
"I'm kidding," Kayleigh laughed.
"Nice to know you haven't lost your humour," Kayleigh's dad said. Kayleigh passed the baby to John.
"You are a handsome boy aren't you?" John said in a loving voice, holding the baby close to him.
"Jake," Kayleigh looked at John.
John looked at Kayleigh in agreement, "Jake's holding my finger," John smiled at the rest of the families cooing over Jake.
The doctor offered to take a picture of the whole family. "Look at the camera Baby Jake," John said letting Kayleigh hold Jake in her arms.
"Say ?Welcome to the world Jake'," The doctor said.
