looked at herself in the full-length mirror, "Ugh," She said in disgust. She grabbed her messy morning hair.
walked passed and took a peep in 's room, "Why are you pulling your hair?"
"I'm not pulling my hair...it's just...never mind you won't understand...you're not a woma...actually...," said, staring at her friend who
didn't look too pleased at her comment, "...anyway...my hair is awful...I look horrible...and-" was halted by gagging her.
"You're fine," said.
"Just fine?" said sarcastically.
"Okay...you're beautiful...pretty...gor-" started rambling.
"Okay...okay...I get it. Thanks," said collapsing on the end of her bed, ?Oh and thanks for letting me sleep over."
smiled, "Anything for a drunken friend."
"Hey! I wasn't drunk," denied. raised an eyebrow. "Okay I was maybe a little drunk,"
said. raised the eyebrow again. "Okay... okay... I was full out... fall on the floor drunk," replied reluctantly.
"Well you got uni now... do you want me to drop you off?" asked.
"Uni...thanks for reminding me," said in an obvious sarcastic tone.
"Sorry...do you want me to drop you off then, Your Highness, or do you want to walk there yourself?" repeated.
"Please may you drop me off my loyal servant?...If you don't have anything else you need to do," said whilst packing her bag.
"Okay, come on then...wouldn't want to be late now, would we?" said sarcastically whilst opening the door.
"Oh no certainly not," retorted.
They arrived at the university, hugged goodbye. watched
run towards the main entrance. He leaned back in his seat and smiled to himself. Come practise was in a world of his own,
when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He jumped a little. The person behind him laughed.
"!" cussed silently, "You scared me."
"I know hehe... anyway what's up with you?" he asked.
"Nothing," replied.
"Yeah right," a voice from behind said.
"?" said.
"You've been acting googly-eyed all week," said smiling.
"No I haven't," denied.
"Yeah...so everyone acts like this..." impersonated 's loved-up look.
laughed at 's look.
"..." couldn't reply because there was no answer back for what was the truth.
"Is it ?" asked.
"Huh?" replied.
"Who's ?" asked.
"His best friend," said pointing to .
nodded in acknowledgement.
"It's not ," stated. They started practise. and
teased ; was still denying.

"No I'm not," denied once again.
"Hey !" called. turned to the direction of
the shouting.
"What are you doing?" asked.
ran towards them, "What did you want, mate?"
"You've been in love... obviously, right?" asked.
"Um maybe...? ...yeah," said trying hard not to blush.
"Well then you should be able to answer this then," said.
"Okay, what is it?" asked.
"Nothing. You don't have to answer anything," said in one breath.
"Is love struck?"' asked .
"Erm..." He looked at .
"No," replied.
"What!?! Are you serious? I mean look at his face!" said pointing to 's face.
"Guys, I don't really appreciate all the pointing? stuck in.
"He's just chirpy. That's not a face of someone in love," stated,still pointing at 's face.
The others felt a bit silly, as seemed to know better than them. They just walked away. "Thanks ," said.
"So you are in love...I knew it!" said proudly but not too loud.
"Wha...?...How?" stuttered and slightly blushed.
"I can tell...besides I know what it feels like... I mean having people pester you about love" said smiling, "Don't worry, I won't tell."
"Thanks."
At the end of practise went to pick up after he had a shower. parked outside the university entrance waiting for . As soon as she stepped out of the door, a smile grew on 's face. He was always happy to see her but then she turned around to hug another guy, his smile faded. When she waved good-bye to the guy she ran to the car. put on a fake smile.
Chapter 2
"Hey !" said.
"Hey," said, "Who was that guy?" he asked.
"Who? Oh right, that was ," replied putting her seat belt on, "He asked me to the dance,"
she said looking at him.
"Oh I see," said - relieved.
"Why? You weren't going to beat him up were you? Being the protective figure you are," said smiling.
"No, I just thought that you two were...dating," said reluctantly saying the last word of the sentence.
"Oh no...I wish," sighed.
"You wish?" repeated what said.
"Yeah...I mean he's kinda cute...and he's a sweet guy," looked out of the window.
"So you like him?" asked.
"I don't know...it's a mixed feeling...you know...some days I feel like I'm in love him...but other days I think I'm just deluded," explained,
"What do you think I should do?" asked.
"Huh?" asked as he wasn't really paying attention to talking about .
"Well you know...should I carry on thinking I have a chance with him...or just leave it?" asked facing .
"You... erm... should...." looked at him waiting for an answer. didn't know what to
say...should he support her and say ask him out...or be selfish and tell her to forget about it, "You should ask him to hang out with you sometime," it killed him to advise that but he
didn't think thought about him that way.
"Yeah... good idea... I'll see what happens from then. Thanks ! ... You're the bestest friend - ever," thanked with a hug, "So what do you want to do tonight then?"
"Your choice," said.
"Hmm... Well it's Friday... why don't we just do our usual. Go to the house... eat/drink/talk/watch everything and anything" said.
"Sounds like a plan to me," replied.
They entered 's house, "Okay...it's late... I'll make dinner," said walking to the kitchen.
"Do you want me to help?" asked enthusiastically.
"I don't know...I haven't seen you cook before," said unsure of what to say.
"Pleaseeee?" asked.
"Not the face...oh no not the face...okay fine...but what you burn you eat," laughed.
"Actually I think I'll watch sports," said losing optimism.
"No, no if you insist on helping then you will," laughed grabbing by the hand.
hit himself on the head for offering. set out the table. The mess he made wasn't bad - well it wasn't anything that couldn't be
fixed. They were about to sit down and eat when a knock came on the door.
"Excuse me," smiled. nodded.
opened the door, "?"
"Hey ," said with his hands in his pockets.
"Come in," said opening the door for him, "So... what are you doing here?"
"I was just wanted to ask you something...is this your boyfriend?" said pointing at .
"Is that what you came here to ask me? No, he's my best friend." She introduced the both of them, " ..., ...."
"Hi," they both said and shook hands feeling slightly uncomfortable.
noticed this, "So...anyway ...what's up?"
interrupted to excuse himself, "I'll leave you two alone."
"?" said taking a seat on the sofa.
"Yeah... um...." cleared his throat, "I was wondering if... you would like to go out with me? As in...um...date."
Chapter 3
"That would be nice," smiled.
"Great...I'll call you later...I don't want to disturb you from your tea," got up and was walked out. They both hugged and said bye.
walked back to the dinning room smiling.
"Why are you so happy?" asked.
"I know you heard...the lounge is just there," said looking at the next room.
"Yeah... I'm happy for you," said believably.
"Thanks," said.
During the meal was quiet.
"? Are you okay," asked, concerned.
"Huh? Yeah...I think I've got a stomach ache," lied.
"I'll get some medicine," said.
"No...no...it's okay I'll just sleep it off," said.
"You sure?" asked.
"Yeah...do you mind if I skip the rest of dinner?" asked and a nod was given in response.
went to the bedroom and laid on the bed thinking about how things could have been different but it was quite obvious that she only thought of him as a friend. He decided to close his eyes and think.
opened the spare room door, to find asleep; she took a blanket and covered .
woke up finding a blanket over him. He got up, went to wash and change. He went downstairs to get some food.
"Morning ?" said chirpily.
"Morning," replied.
"Is your tummy better?" asked.
"Huh?...um...yeah. Thanks," said.
"Breakfast?" said holding up a plate.
"Yes please," replied.
"I'm going out with later...will you be okay?" asked.
"I've got practise anyway," answered.
"Okay...great," said.
looked at his watch, "Actually I better go now. Bye," said kissing on the cheek.
"Bye...have fun!" said.
"Thanks," after that the door shut.
"Hey ," said.
"Hi," greeted.
"Did you ask her out then?" asked.
"No," answered.
"Why?" asked.
"It wouldn't matter anyway...she has a boyfriend now," said.
"Sorry mate," said patting on the back.
decided rather than go home that he would plan 's birthday party. He decided that his present to would be the party so he wanted to do all the planning and decorating himself, with...ahem...a little help. After shopping he came home with bags of things for the party. He hid everything and mentally planned how the party was going to look. His mobile rang...
: Hi!
: Hey .
: Hi, how are you?
: I'm great thanks and you?
: I'm okay...so how was the date? Did he hurt you? ...Was he nice to you? ...How did he treat.....
: Okay...okay.... . Anyway the date was great fun, and yes he was nice.
: Good... anyway why did you call?
: Oh erm I was wondering... well... it's my birthday soon... so would you like to come to dinner with me and .
: I don't know... don't you two want time alone?
: Come on ...please?. Besides... then you and can get to know each
other...Please?
: I...okay I will.
: Yay... thanks. Anyway... it's late... I got to go now... I'll tell you about the date tomorrow. Buh-bye.

put his mobile on the coffee table and collapsed on the sofa, thinking about . He was happy for her but on the other hand he wanted to be the one for . He knew he had to get over this feeling as she was taken but he couldn't help think that he could have had . Eventually he stopped thinking about it and went to wash. The night came and went, too quickly, for who's mobile rang.
: Hi?
: Hey. I've been to all my lectures.
: Oh hey Jen!
: You still asleep?
: ... maybe?... well not anymore.
: I'll call you back later then.
: No...it's okay I'm awake now anyway...what's up?
: What are you doing for my birthday?
: Nothing.
: Don't lie I know you're doing something.
: Nope...I'm not saying.
: Come on.
: No... and anyway what did you really want to talk about?
: Right... well I'm just saying it all went great.
: He didn't hurt you?
: No.
: Was he a gentleman?
: Yes.

: ? He was fine don't worry.

: You worry too much...so how was practise?
: Great... was talking to me about girl problems.

: Well he likes... actually he thinks he might... no, he knows he loves this girl but she's with someone else.

Chapter 4
: Really?
: Yeah why?
: Well I never thought would have this problem...that's all.
: Oh right.
: What did you tell him?
: I didn't know what to say.
: Well in my opinion he should tell this girl... you know... so he knows where he stands.
: Really? He should tell her?
: Well not say that he loves her because she's still with her boyfriend. Just say that he thinks he might have developed some feelings for her. Then she'll say what she
thinks and so on.
: ....
: ? You still there?
: Huh? Um yeah?
: Are you okay? You've been acting weird lately.
: No... I'm fine.
: Is it about ?
: No.
: Do you not like ?
: No I'm just tired... you did ring early you know.
chuckled a little but he was still thinking about what had said about the whole 'tell-the-girl' situation.
: Oh yeah right...sorry. Oh do you want to go house hunting with me?
: You're moving?
: Yeah I'm graduating soon and I thought might as well look for a house now.
: Okay...sure.
: Okay I'll be back in about ten minutes.
: Ten minutes!?!
: Yeah woman! Be ready before then.

: No buts... ten minutes okay? See ya mwah.
With that cancelled the call, not out of rudeness but just so couldn't have his say. quickly jumped out of bed flicking through his clothes, "No... no... no... what was I thinking? No... no...this will do," He carried on finding other clothes. After about 7 minutes he got himself ready. He looked
at his watch. Ten minutes was up... was freakishly at the door on the dot. He looked at his hair debating whether to open the door first or splash his hair with water.
rang the doorbell again. He quickly ran water through his hair and opened the door for .
"You are so vain... I knew you wouldn't be ready in ten minutes," laughed.
just smiled. After 15 minutes they were looking about at different agents. There was no house that caught 's eye.
"How about this house?" asked pointing to a house brief on the agency window.
"Hm...no... I don't like the ivy on the house," said getting slightly frustrated that she couldn't find what she was looking for.
"Um okay, this one looks nice," pointed to a different brief.
"It looks nice but it's too big... after all I am the only one who's going to be living there," explained.
"You know...you can stay at my house for as long as you want?" asked.
"Thanks but I don't want to depend on you all the time... I mean I can't drive... I can't even look after myself... hence my drunken nature," joked.
laughed, "True but it takes more than a day to find your perfect house."
"You're right...let's get something to eat," grabbed by the wrist and walked him to a small cafe.
After they finished asked for the bill, "My treat."
"You sure? I can pay," asked knowing that 's didn't even have a part time job.
"No it's fine...look my debt to you is growing and I haven't paid a single bit back."
"You can pay me back when you become a rich doctor," cheeked. "Anyway what kind of house are you looking for?"

"A small-ish house...two bedrooms...ensuites...kitchen....lounge...nothing big really just nice and simple," replied.
"Oh...two bedrooms?" asked.
"Yeah you know for relatives and friends," said.
They carried on talking about 's perfect house when 's leg accidentally tapped
's "Sorry," he quickly apologised.
"It's fine...are you okay ?" asked looking into his eyes.
"Yeah I'm great," He tried to avoid eye contact.
"You've been acting strange...ever since...well...ever since I met . Do you not like him or something? You don't fancy him or anything do
you?" asked knowing that something was playing on 's mind.
"I must say I'm quite offended with that comment, of course not. No he's great...I'm okay...don't worry," tried to persuade
that nothing was wrong but his eyes gave it away.
"You're not okay...please tell me...you're worrying me," said taking hold of his hands.
"I...nothing...it's all this you wanting to move out," attempted to change the subject.
"You're lying...whatever it is it's obviously bothering you so please tell me?" persisted.
"I... I can't," looked down onto the table.
"Why?" asked.
"It's..." started to explain.
's phone rang, "Hey ! I'm fine thanks...I'm out with ...no, no...house...really? Are you sure? I'll think about it...okay? ...okay...bye...love you too!" cancelled the call.
looked at not knowing whether he should take the advice she gave. ?Sorry about that. What's bothering you? Tell me!?
?Okay, well, you know that advice you gave me for ?? asked and nodded. ?Well, I wasn't really talking about him. It's about me.?
Chapter 5
looked up from the table and his eyes locked onto .
"Oh," said knowing that the girl he was talking about was her. She felt stupid for not realising this.
"Look I know nothing can happen. I think your birthday dinner should just be you and ,"
withdrew his hands.
"...I...um..." didn't know what to think.
"Hey... you're with just forget what I said... he's the one for you," said.
"I can't."
"You can't what?" asked slightly confused.
"I can't forget because... I felt the same about you," looked intently into 's eyes.
"Really?" smiled.
"Yeah but..."
"You're with ," finished off 's sentence.
"Yeah...I didn't do anything because I didn't want to lose you as a friend."
" seems to love you," explained.
"I love him," loved but now there was a state of confusion.
"Well then...that settles it...you and are meant to be," was slightly disheartened by this but
he wasn't going to sacrifice 's happiness for his selfishness.
"Um...I think I'm going to stay at 's place now," said not facing .
"If that's what you want," didn't want it to end this way but he couldn't do anything that would solve this.
"Look...I hope this hasn't affected our friendship...I know it won't quite be the same...but..." said still giving no eye contact.
"Of course..." didn't want to lose but it was her choice. 'Why did I give him that stupid
advice?' thought to herself. "Just to let you know...even though I'm with he can never replace you," smiled at . She was happy with but was the reason why her life

"Okay well we have to leave now...we'll see you in two weeks," 's dad picked up the luggage bags, "If you need anything just call the hotel okay?" 's dad gave her one last hug before going to the taxi.
"I will. Thanks. Have fun in ," shouted walking out the house, waving bye to her parents.
The rest of the report was dismissed, as only needed to hear 'BA02'. She was hoping that her parent were still with her.
"Hello Miss Li, is it?" the police officer asked.
nodded it was evident that the news was not going to be good, first her parents don't come home as intended, no hospital call to where
the injured people were taken and now a police asking for her.
?We're sorry but unfortunately..." the police officer continued but the words were just a blur to .
picked up a picture she was about to pack, her fingers tracing her parent's faces. A tear dropped onto the framed glass. The only person who knew about this was ; she didn't feel the need for anyone else to know. From then on she had to depend on , no one would give a job because she lacked experience. She went to Uni but offered to pay, she felt guilty because she could not return any favours big enough to repay for what he had done for her.
hadn't really seen much of ...he kind of missed their little 'disagreements'...the way she bickered about the fact that he
took so long to get ready and made her late for University because he was messing with his hair. Someone knocked on the door.
"?" asked surprised by 's presence.
"Hey! I hope you don't mind me visiting?" stepped aside to let walk in, "Thanks."
"What are you doing here?" asked trying to not make feel like unwanted company.
"I'm just here to see how you are doing," replied smiling.
"And 's okay with this?" asked.
"Of course. He told me if I wanted to go and see you, I can, just as long as I don't leave him after," laughed, "I would have come sooner
but I had to move so many things and... well... you know me," hinted that she didn't finish sorting her stuff.
"Yeah I know," joked.
"I'm not that bad," sat on the sofa.
"Hmm okay," was 's reply as he sat next to her. "So how is it?"
"How is what?" asked.
"Living with ?" asked.
"It's great...he's so sweet...the house is a nice place to stay until I get my own place," stated.
"Your own place?" asked.
"Yeah?" replied with a raised eyebrow.
"Oh I thought you were staying with him...didn't think you would be finding your own place," explained.
"Oh...no I can't stay with ...I mean that would mean depending on him," explained.
"So any luck with finding your new place?"
"Well I've narrowed it down to a few but I don't know which one. Actually why don't you come over and see?" asked and smiled.
"I don't know. I don't think will appreciate you bringing another man into the house," said
half joking but half serious.
"He won't mind, he knows you are a close friend," didn't really give a choice, she grabbed
his hand and took him out of the house, before the door completely closed grabbed his keys from the hook.

"Is this the house?" asked driving slowly through the street.
"Yep that's the house," pointed to the house.
"Are you sure won't mind?" asked reluctant to be at a stranger's house.

"Yeah sorry about the mess. That's the uni life for you," laughed.

They walked upstairs into 's bedroom, "Where did I put them?" searched around the
room, "Ah here they are." She passed the briefs (house summaries) to .
He quickly flicked through them, "They're not bad actually."
"Which one do you think?" asked.
"Hmm," he looked through them again, his finger rubbing his chin. "I like this one but it's up to you."
"I really like that one as well. It is within what I can pay so that's a plus," smiled taking the sheets off .

Chapter 6
"Hey ... ?" said weary of his presence.

. They both scratched the back of their heads in discomfort.
"So guys what do you want to do?" asked turning around and smiling. The guys didn't answer they just stood around shyly with
discomfort, "Okay well how about we just watch a film?"
"Sure," They both replied simultaneously.
and sat on opposite sides of the sofa. went to
put a DVD on. sat in between them, she could feel the tension between them two but she decided to let the film carry on to see if the tension would calm a little. After 15
minutes the tension was still there. rose from the seat. and watched as she got
up to stand in front of them, "Okay you two obviously feel uncomfortable around each other."
?There's no tension," said and agreed.
"Yes there is! I really want this to sort out but how? I don't know" said arms crossed. There was silence.
"Okay why don't you guys get to know each other, whilst I make us some drinks," suggested as she walked into the kitchen.
They both whistled and looked elsewhere in the room.
"I don't hear any talking," shouted from the kitchen.
"So," started but didn't know what else to say.
"Hey ! Why don't you tell about what you do?"

"Yeah okay. Well, I'm in a ," stated but still no eye contact.

"What do you mean just be friends?" was hoping that it wasn't what it sounded like.
?It's killing me to see you and together," didn't want to do this but he thought it was for the
best.
"So what? You're just going to throw our friendship away? Is that what you want?" questioned.
?No... Yes... No but I?? was finding hard to express what he wanted and what he felt.
"What is it then?" was getting annoyed but deep inside she just wanted to burst out into tears.
"I hate the fact that has what I can't have," explained. "I know you don't feel the same but I
still do. It's for the best."
"If that's what you want," said but with hesitation.
"I'd better go," turned away, he could hear sniffling.

hadn't completely forgotten about but she thought maybe if she gave him some space then he'd change his mind. Why am I worried? Well he has been my friend for lord knows how many years. Plus, he's right. It's only for the best. Maybe I'm thinking nonsense. Maybe it's because I love him too much to just let it end like this. Omg did I just say I love him? No, no I mean that in a friend way. I love , snap out of it. Me and are happy. But then again? No, no buts me and , thought. She knew she was going completely insane, talking to herself.
On 's birthday, "
"Men! Let me sleep," whined.
"No, wake up now!" said shaking .
"Just a couple more minutes?" asked.
"No now," laughed.
"Please I've just come from a week of exams. I'm tired and need sleep," pulled her pillow and covered her head. Hoping to get the
sympathy vote.
"Pleaseeeeeeeeeee," asked.
"Aww not the face," covered her face with the pillow once again, and then wacked him with her pillow playfully.
"Pleaseeeeeeeeeee," repeated.
"Aww okay," put on a sleepy smile.
"Took long enough," laughed.
After half an hour, "Tada," said spinning around in the kitchen showing her new outfit.
"Wow you look amazing," said.
"Thanks so what's happening? Do I get to know my present?" asked trying to sweet talk her way.
"Erm no," laughed. ?It's all a surprise set up by Yours Truly," smiled quite pleased with
himself.
"Aww dinner was great, thank you, let's go home then, yeah?" asked kissing on the lips.
"Yeah," answered.
opened the door to their house. "
"Yep."
"Thank you, I'm going to get a drink I'll be right back," told everyone. "?"
was shocked when she saw standing behind the counter. She wiped her eyes to check it was reality.

"Is that a welcome an old friend gets? Gee thanx," joked.
"Sorry I'm just shocked," smiled.
"Here," pulled out a wrapped present.
"Aww thanks but why did you get me something... I mean-," was interrupted.
"Just accept it, please?" asked.
unwrapped the present, ?It's beautiful." put the charm bracelet on and then gave
a hug, which she missed much.
"Surprise," said.
"You invited ?" said.
"Took a bit of persuading but yeah," said. "Anyway I'll let you two talk. Don't be too long though this is your party,"
winked. smiled back.
"So what made you give in?" asked.
"Well let's just say your boyfriend isn't as bad as I thought," laughed.
"What are you trying to say about my taste in men?" said.
"Um... Yeah...anyway I missed having little my friend around," said.
"Really? Me too," gave another hug.
"I guess I just needed time to think things through but I'd prefer having you as a friend then losing you just because of another guy," said.
"Aww, that's so sweet," smiled.
"So are we friends again?" asked.
"Of course we are, how could I say no to a guy who bought me jewellery," joked.
"Thanks, I feel used now," pushed to the lounge where the guests were.
"Thanks ," gave a long lingering kiss.
smiled and took a sip off his drink. He still would have preferred that guy to be him but he knew he'd have to live with this decision.
